Parents of CIA International School Demand Fee Reduction
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On April 22, 2020, many people who were parents of the students at CIA international school protested in front of the school on street 2004, Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh.
Those students' parents protested to get 50% off for the online tuition fee, because they have temporary employment problems during the spread of the COVID-19 crisis.
The school was able to discount only 25% off for kindergarten and 15% off for G1-12. Parents carried a sign saying, "Boycotting for online class if the payment is 100%". However, no solution has been found yet.

A crowd of barbarians has mustered at the gates of Footprints now too with their torches and pitchforks held high, baying for the director's blood or perhaps a discount on their school fees.

Clever name for a school.

My favorite name for a school here is the Milky Way school - best school in the galaxy! I always get a kick out of that when I drive past. I hope they aren't closing.

Re: Parents of CIA International School Demand Fee Reduction
As predicted, the squeeze will be in the middle ground - CIA and now Footprints. It's a bind for the school because I am sure that they are continuing to pay their teaching and non-teaching staff in order to retain them for when the lockdown ends. However, the only real saving the school will be making is electricity, but that's probably tempered by loss of revenue from the dining hall/cafe. The holistic experience of being educated at home, online, is no way as valuable as being educated in person with a group of your peers. Tough one.

Yeah, my kids school had closed 7 or 8 weeks back and invoiced for next term two months earlier than is normal.
Now that they won't be open we will homeschool for the immediate future, rather than pay them for the same shit.

Same here. Have told the 3 girls in my family to pay their friends that are going to school 2000 r every day to give copies of their homework.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

You're lucky that this is an option for you. Very few Cambodians would be able to homeschool their kids in English. This will be an interesting one to watch. Don't most of the schools have a 'one-off' joining fee? What happens to that if you leave and come back? Do you have to pay it again?

Re: Parents of CIA International School Demand Fee Reduction
I agree, parents don't send their kids to school just to learn either. There is the social aspect and the facilities like sports fields and pools etc and also the personal attention and guidance. It also helps in getting them out of the house supervised during work hours. CIA First did have an online learning system in place before the pandemic which they are to be commended for but this isn't ideal for every student. It requires discipline on the student's part and also guidance which many local parents may not be capable of giving. Even foreign parents do not necessarily have the time or skills to guide a student through online learning.Cambo Dear wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 2:13 pm The holistic experience of being educated at home, online, is no way as valuable as being educated in person with a group of your peers. Silence, exile, and cunning.
