He was stopped while driving his car? Did 2 or 3 years?krisduncs wrote:Yes but that was some other barang who had a problem with the arrestee who brought the cops down on him,if we are thinking about the same person/place? Very early o's?
But if your saying that there are normally complicating circumstances. Yeah, you may be right.
Kampot used to be such a nice quite place. One squeaky push-bike every 1/2 hour...

It was in 2000. Craig at Melting Pot.
Two things. 1. It wasn't small quantities. and 2. It was a dispute with the nearby Mealy XXXXXX guesthouse owner which caused the bust. It wasn't some random police dragnet to clean up the town.
This case in Kampot, the guy didn't pay his tea money and then goes and brags about it on FB.
Edit in reply to Juansweetpotato: Sounds like a different guy to the one I mentioned.

Just to eliminate any doubt about whether it's the same guy, it is probably worth pointing out that Fat Cat's Yan Demyanov is also Facebook friends with Dan Deychman and David Tesik-Glicken.General Mackevili wrote:Hmmmmm.
Google Translate says they found this:
"seized exhibits, some include: marijuana dry 1 package plastic big tobacco spray 1 package Scales white brand WH-B05 1 units box plastic white whole cover 1 (blank), glue, alcohol for burning 1 hose plastic 2 piece devices for smoking marijuana 1 (syringes total tab 1 glass, iron, 1 plate knocked the cigarette 1), and years Cooker electric brand SHARP 1."
And this article, which talks about a Yan Demyanov being involved in a heroin drug deal in Boston was also caught carrying syringes:
"When officers were allowed into the condo, they reportedly found three men, including Tesik-Gliken, sitting around a coffee table covered with several needles and small plastic bags. Officers handcuffed Tesik-Gliken and searched one of the other men, Daniel Deychman, reportedly recovering a capped syringe, tourniquet, glass pipe and a green substance believed to be marijuana. The other man, Yan Demyanov, was reportedly carrying syringes as well."
..........
So, if it's not him, we have 2 different American males from Boston, Massachusetts named Yan Demyanov that seem to be involved in drug deals while carrying around syringes.

If you are going to deal drugs, paying the local flat foot $20 is not going to save you from being a person of interest. That was several plants he had, even selling at 20 a quarter he had nearly a grand's worth of street weed there. You must be at least drinking buddies with a captain, or hang around Ream naval base chumming it up with people with stars.

Not so sure it was due to a tiff with Smelly Chunder, but I agree that it definitely wasn't part of some police effort to clean things up or even to enforce the law. Pretty much all of these low end pot dealer busts to date, including the Melting Pot bust, and likely this one, are due to some individual circumstances such as bothering the wrong people, not dealing with the right people, failing to be nice to the right people, being just too obvious and over the top, etc.Username Taken wrote:It was in 2000. It never hurts to be nice to the local authorities. It may not save you, but then again it may. And after you are busted, you'll have plenty of time to sit around playing Second Guess, wondering if you had been a bit kinder to the low level grunt trying to make a couple bucks collecting sangkat registrations last year whether you might not be sitting in a cell right now. After all, after you gave him that face destroying lecture on corruption, where did he go next? Did he go rethink his role as a $80/month government official and damaging effects of corruption on Cambodia, or did he go get drunk, play cards with his brother the cop and his uncle the deputy governor and bitch about the asshole barang who gave him a rough time and really needs something bad to happen to him. Or when it comes time to sacrifice somebody for sake of looking like they are doing their job, who's going to get chosen, the nice guy who always treats them with respect, or the guy who sent them packing with their tail between their legs over $5?
