Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

The police likely coordinated the traffic such that this overloaded truck could take a bridge not capable of withstanding its weight. One cop gets 10k riel, residents lose a bridge for 6+ months.

Not to mention the roads that are in a constant state of disrepair for the same reason. Kleptocracy at work.

And local tractor driver makes a bundle pulling cars through the adjacent rice paddy. Been this way for at least the last 20 years I've been around here. It's a system that people seem to accept. They'll rebuild the bridge at some point and the game will reset.

Open your eyes.
The truck is not overloaded.
That truck might of been too heavy if it was empty for that bridge.
That is why signs need to be posted on each end of the bridge in time for drivers to read them and stop.
A truck owner and driver should know the weight of the truck empty. So, when they go to weigh it with a load on they know how much to charge for the load and they know how much they are carrying should they be crossing bridges. How can you say it was overloaded when the dirt is not above the sides of the bed?
Nothing new about this shit in Cambodia.
In Sihanoukville, they blocked a main road and tehcks started going past my apartment and in no time my road was turned to shit.
The same thing going to Kampot.
Now, in Siem Reap a bunch of concrete trucks pouring a new stretch have destroyed all the roads around the one they were working on.
It is not a case of a truck being overloaded.
They needed smaller trucks with lighter loads.

Hmmm...tough to say without more information. That truck looks like it has 5 axles, which would mean it could probably carry around 20 cu. meters of dirt without being overweight. Of course, overweight in this case is going to be substantially over 40 tons, and even if it was properly loaded the bridge likely couldn't handle it. Looking at the picture though and estimating volume, it looks like it is probably carrying between 30 and 40 cubes. So I would say it almost certainly is overweight, but you are likely correct that the failure would have probably occurred even properly loaded.

BTW: dirt is VERY heavy. Axle loading is not designed so that a bed can be filled all the way to the top with dirt. The fact that people do it does not make it right.

I thought this was on a side road, but this was actually a bridge on NR 2, and the truck part of the road widening project.

The truck could have driven around the temporary bypass, but chose to drive over the bridge instead.

Those Bailey bridges are rated for 20t, iirc. A Howo dump truck gross load is 31t. http://m.sinotruk-hrt.com/product/dump_truck/24963.html

No way to really know if he was overloaded, but he was certainly above the bridge capacity.
