Old man has slingshots confiscated by police.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

So I feel that circumstances rather than the slingshots themselves were the issue. I readily admit that my explanation does not explain why the peddler was allowed to keep his machetes. The Water Festival does not seem like an appropriate venue for the sale of weapons.
Whole spate of slingshot attacks a few years back:

Ok, slingshots are dangerous but so are machetes.
Can you usually buy them at markets in PP ? Or do the police arrest the sellers ?

It is interesting to see what is considered dangerous.
I rarely see they are sold in pp,but they are sold in Some Reap at Phnom Kulen and stylish ( penis). I don't see police arrest the sellers there. Or they are allowed to sell in SR,but illegal in PP?

Like many posters here I am an older man but like to keep up with the latest fashions. Regretfully I fear my penis may no longer be acceptably stylish. Would the previous.poster be so kind as to furnish more information about getting a new stylish one. One that would meet the high standards of Cambodian values.

FAIL Little Salary. They're not slingshots. They're strap-ons.

Are you so sure that's what they are because you own one?

I was wondering if the old man in the OP was an exception, but here a guy got hauled off by the cops for having a slingshot in his bag, so I guess not.
The police consider a slingshot as a weapon - in Phnom Penh anyway - unless it's a strap-on of course.
Slingshot lands wary lad in the slammer

Self-defence apparently isn’t a good enough reason to be carrying around a slingshot as one man learned yesterday.

Police were conducting random checks for weapons along a street in the capital yesterday and picked out a luckless lad for inspection, only to find a slingshot in his bag.

Despite insisting that it was meant to defend himself against harassing gangs when he makes his way home at night, the poor, pestered 21-year-old man was hauled away to the district police station.

About a month ago I saw sling shots for sale in the food court area of AEON's store at the mall. Maybe it was a sting operation.
