Old Barang with Krama in ATM Drama

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Update: The foreigner has been identified in Khmer media as Leonard Anthony, a 63-year-old male expat from Australia, living at a rented house on Street 294, Boeung Keng Kang I Khan Chamkar Morn.
It appears that the man was violent toward the Maybank branch manager, because he was upset about the $5 service fee. As he may well be charged by the police, there should be more details on the incident later.

$5 service fee for what? ANZ requested a $1 "over the counter fee" from me ages ago and as difficult it was I didn't punch anybody.

Those khmer ATMs are retarded.

Some wont accept certain cards whilst others wont accept withdrawals over a certain amount.

Thai ATMs are way easier to operate.

Yeah, used to be free at Maybank for Visa, now $5. Not keeping up, obviously.

He should have tried Sathapana Bank instead.

How does the local press decide when to pixilate someone's face and when not to?

Funny that they always are in extreme rush when they have the chance to arrest a foreigner! For all other things especially when a foreigner has a complaint or issue they are always sleeping and tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow...next week next week... or extort or investigate you while you just come to report something..

I am often wondering if most foreigners even realise what they are in this country! Actually for me it is the same I am Mexican but I don't look hispanic enough I am European looking so they keep pestering me. I can tell you I am really not a stupid but they are doing things they would have lost their head 10 times already if they would do it in my country!

I am sure they gave this foreigner some sort of attitude and he just snapped!

most people in the banks are always super helpfull but I have seen a few times some khmers with an incredible attitude they would not even last an hour in my country!

Be careful amigo. I heard some banks now charge all Mexicans not $5 but $10, as there's a big wall to fund.
