NGO Activist Alex Gonzalez-Davidson Arrested in Cambodia

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I wrote 'more readily received' not that there are not many aware...but Cambodia needs a Stephen Hawking like scientist that can inspire more kids to study a science instead of business ,economic...etc.

Such activist campaigns strive to bring attention to environmental issues and seek change through shaming the government. The problem is that this regime doesn't give a monkey's toss and doesn't feel shame, at least not near enough to make genuine nature conservation efforts. China is willing and able to provide money and aid to Cambodia without any good-governance strings attached, even if the West is not. It's not like there is an attractive political opposition to vote for, and even if there was would they ever be allowed to replace the status quo? Many people know full well the country's natural resources are being stolen with little or no benefit to the locals. Drawing attention is not an end in itself. The current regime holds all the cards.

Still, I applaud the effort.

Fuck him. Someone turn a power washer on and scrub him down.

This countries young doesn't give a 1 flying FUCK about the environment. Watched a 6 or 7 year old girl finish drinking her bag of some sugary beverage. She on the back of her fathers moto in the middle of the street. She just drops it. Yesterday another child same age...with his dick hanging out pissing outside his home while normal day traffic passing by without a care. The bathroom was not 2 meters away. HOPELESS! 100%
You're a nobody in the gutter with a Smartphone in your a hand.

I'm proud of him. We will miss him, but it's time that Cambodians should wake up from depending on anyone. Better have doers more than sayers.

I do care about it too because their parents have bad example for their children.

Finally it is time for Alex to say farewell to Cambodia and its people. You will be missed Alex #ourhero.

I wonder where he'll make his base now. Maybe Thailand? Maybe he'll try sneaking back in?

Sad, but unsurprising, that it ended this way. As Joon pointed out, he's lucky he's a foreigner because otherwise he'd be getting the Chut Wutty treatment.

Its wonderful to have people like this that are willing to put it all on the line for what they believe in. Unfortunately with the present corrupt regime he's piss-against-the-wind. The Vietnamese control the government and the Chinese are raping the land and swiss/offshore bank accounts are filling up. I wish world-wide attention could be focused on Ream Park as the Chinese and special interests are raping a national treasure.

At least years ago in Thailand they had a king that everyone respected. The king forced the corrupt government to pass a law against chainsaws and the cutting down of old growth threes. Sadly the king in Cambodia does not hold the views like the king of Thailand or hold the hearts of the people the same way that the king of Thailand does.

He's been blacklisted from re-entering Cambodia :(
He pretty much followed the path of Global Witness. But I believe that he'll continue to advocate and lobby from outside, maybe fundraise for Mother Nature which is still in Cambodia (hopefully the Government won't shut it down...) and drum international support for their cause.

Global Witness' reports have been damning, exhaustive research on the natural resources plundering mess which nobody can now ignore.
