3 Dutchmen arrested for filming with drone in restricted area, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Why would anybody do that?

Bombing function? :)
I have one of those mini drones. They’re fun to play around with and would like to take it out for more fly space but always been paranoid about being caught.

I saw a quite large style drone last week flying along the southern end of riverside , then by the ferrys, then it went over to the Sokha hotel,, at times it was quite high, dissapearing out of sight,,,, then headed over the Mekong towards Aresat. I dont know what range they have but I'm sure it was being operated from a cruise/passenger boat.

I doubt that it is possible to find the operator unless he is standing in front of a cop.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I feel for them. It was probably all innocent. I fly a drone and taking mine to Cambodia. I know many places have regulations. Some countries are hypersensitive about security particularly flying near government buildings or strategic infrastructure. If they're experienced flyers and coming from the Netherlands I'd give them the benefit of the doubt that they did some research before flying, but still, this is a risk of flying in a capital city. Anyone thinking of flying in foreign country the UAV provides some basic info on local drone laws. https://www.uavsystemsinternational.com ... rone-laws/. Here's the basics:
Drone use is allowed in Cambodia, but there are several drone laws that need to be followed when flying in the country. Operators must ensure that they follow the following drone laws when flying in Cambodia,
  • Do not fly your drone over people or large crowds
Respect others privacy when flying your drone
Do not fly your drone over airports or in areas where aircraft are operating
You must fly during daylight hours and only fly in good weather conditions
Do not fly your drone in sensitive areas including government or military facilities. Use of drones or camera drones in these areas are prohibited
Drones are banned in Phnom Penh, Angkor Park, or around any historic temples unless you have written permission

Cam Nivag wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2018 6:22 pm I guess there's a "no drone" local law. Back in 2015 two Westerners were detained and then released later in the day for flying a drone near the Prime Minister's house. They signed an agreement saying they wouldn't do it again.
There is no drone local law yet what we got is announcement from phnom penh governor of banning drone from flying in the whole phnom penh area but if you don't fly them in some specific area it should be oke
