Re: New driving license procedure for foreigners
Agree, also renewed my licence recently in Eaon2 (was 1 month over date) and all was fixed within half an hour and they didn't ask for a residency letter. Just old licence, passport, pics and some medical tests that they did on site.epidemiks wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 8:14 pmWhy did you need the residency letter?Spigzy wrote:[Edit: location in Aeon 2 is 2nd floor, North end, in the "Financial Zone" towards the arcade area].
Quick update on experience today - I used the same sangkat letter of residency that I used to obtain my work permit, to renew my driving license; was rejected by the jobsworth there who said that the letter needs to state it is for driving license renewal ... What a load of crap; everything else in order. Oh, and I waited 2 hours between showing him the letter first time which he accepted to being told it wasn't quite right.
Usually I'd send a minion to do such a dastardly deed, but thought I'd give it a go directly & join the plebs for a change. I'll be on the blower to Sun Chanthol shortly with some polite recommendations for improvement; like somebody screening the documents before you reach the jobsworth.
I renewed mine in September and merged my bike and car licences, no sangkat letter was asked or offered.
just noise, white noise

The other day whilst in Aeon 1, I noticed that they now have a DL office on the second or third floor, on the way to the movie theater.
It's pretty nondescript and goes down one of the side alleyways that employees use. I didn't go in but maybe they can do DL renewals there so we don't have to drive way out to Aeon 2 for it.

I believe that’s only for Cambodians and/or people who’ve got a 10 year licence, or who’ve sat the test.Brody wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 10:40 pm [location in Aeon 2 is 2nd floor, North end, in the "Financial Zone" towards the arcade area].

Re: New driving license procedure for foreigners
My apologies in advance if someone has already asked this question. But, what are the consequences of driving without a valid drivers license in Cambodia? In Thailand where I have been stopped many times on a motorbike, they don't even ask for a drivers license. Only Passport and I have never had any problems there besides the occasional small fine for no helmet ect. Thanks for reading.

Unless you’re driving a big (over 125cc) you don’t technically need a licence but if you do you could have your big bike confiscated.
Same goes for a car. No licence no insurance no car!

Since when is insurance mandatory? Plenty of uninsured cars and trucks on the road.davegorman wrote:

If they can find a reason to get cash they will. Also, any barang not insured is asking for trouble. Pretty stupid not to insure your car seeing as it costs peanuts.
