New bridges announced

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

New bridges announced

Post by ali baba »

Prime Minister HE had agreed that the bridge be built linking between the Night Market in Daun Penh district to Chroy Chongva area, near Sokha Hotel and to Areyksat area, Kandal province’s Lvea Em district, opposite the Royal Palace by the Chaktomuk (Mekong) River.

The night market has no major roads near it, how is it going to connect up?

I only said this a few weeks ago. Chroy Changvar is a prime area for development. Maybe the Sokha Okhna knew this was happening.

Good point. Perhaps they will barrel their way through the night market and Independence park and hook up with Monivong between 108 and 106.

The alternative is to put 1000 cars an hour into the narrow streets around the area, all trying to get somewhere else, and making Sisowath Quay a car park for much of the day.

The images I've seen have it 'connecting' at Norodom, so most likely it will land on or west of the night market, with a new boulevard rnning through the remaining 'parks' to a roundabout at Norodom, with the 108/106 roads remaining as is, similar to how sts. 70/72 run beside the Japanese bridge.

Another bridge recently announced, and good for us Chbar Ampov residents: Prek Pra - Prek Talong bridge. https://construction-property.com/study ... r-details/

Presumably, the long planned road to NR1 will connect to the bridge, through or around the new eastern arm of Peng Huot Boeung Snor.
With this and the Koh Norea - Koh Pich bridge, and the Koh Anlong Chen ring road bridge will move a lot of traffic off the Monivong bridge and Kbal Thnal clusterfuck.

Is it proposed to overfly Sisowath Quay or to allow traffic to exit and enter the bridge from Sisowath Quay? (or both)

I don't know the details, but presumably it will need to land west of the nightmarket, and I would guess access only via Norodom, just like the Japanese bridge.
