Mystery surrounds Cambodian-Canadian man's death in Laos

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

There is something weird that keeps coming up - in the voice message Pech (the victim) says that the trouble was related to something bad that he said about HE ! At first I thought this was a result of confused reporting, since this takes place in Laos not Cambodia, but in this video he says this clearly. His voice sounds stressed but normal, not drugged or mad.He is a Khmer-Canadian, but so what ?
Things are not making sense.

"The report also said that four knives were found near the body"

Yes. He walked through airport security without them noticing his four knives and after calling his family to tell them that people were trying to kill him, he committed suicide by stabbing himself in the back and neck.

Seems pretty obvious that he was murdered by somebody else.

Yes, I think so. There are many things doubt about it.

That's Laos. Strange country. Asian communism really does suck. I remember talking to a BBC correspondent making a report in Vientienne when I was there. He was not impressed with being followed everywhere. And neither was I. Bloody single party, free market, communists. : headslap: At least they have no trains in Laos, so they cant lock you on them like they do in Vietnam.
WLMD.

Maybe they gave him psychotropics and he did something like the scene from the uncut version of Hellraiser.
Another thing we will never find the truth out about. Brings about feelings of anger and frustration yet again...

Indeed, it looks like a mystery worthy of Sherlock Holmes.

As they mention, the biggest clues are the voice messages. What seems curious though it that he never who he is referring to but instead just uses the pronoun "they".

“I’m in Laos and they’re trying to hurt me. I need help."

They took my boarding pass away. They’re screwing me over. I’m trying to get out of here as soon as possible. It’s a bad situation,”

Then, there is this statement:

“Apparently I said something bad about (Cambodian prime minister) HE.”

Should it be assumed that this statement was made while he was still in Cambodia, or was it made at the airport.

Anyway, the obvious question is who is he referring to when he says, "they".

Also, why doesn't he give more specific information in his messages?

That was makes it sound like a paranoid delusion.

Rumors of drug use, specifically "ya ba" and those nasty malaria tablets are mentioned on other places on the internet.
