Mysterious Deaths After Drinking Orange Juice

Cambodia News, ( Stung Treng): A man and a woman passed away on December 24 and 25, after drinking a bottle of orange drink together at a plantation in Rithy Sen Chey 1 village, Ou Svay commune, Borey Osvay Senchey district, Stung Treng province. According to the relatives of the victims, as of this morning, December 27, 2022, there is no confirmation of the cause of death yet from professional sources.

Mrs. Hok Sopheap, 32, nephew of the deceased, said that Yat Chenda, male, 44 years old, was,working as a cassava picker in Rithy Sen Chey 1 village, Ou Svay commune, Stung Treng province. Prior to the incident, they often went to buy drinks in a stall at Dong Kral every day with others, but then on December 24, after drinking a bottle of orange juice bought from the stall in Dong Kral, he suddenly felt more and more nauseous, until his relatives took him to Stung Treng Provincial Referral Hospital where he passed away. Another woman who also drank from the same bottle, died a day later.

Rithy Sen Chey 1 village chief Sok Kimsen said this morning, December 27, that it was suspected that the deceased had been poisoned by drinking the orange juice. However, he said that he could not confirm this, and that everyone in the village is waiting for the experts to announce the cause of the two deaths.

Ung Soviet, director of the Stung Treng Provincial Health Department, said on December 27, that officials were working hard to find out the truth, but so far there was no answer as to whether the orange drink was in fact responsible for the two deaths. CamControl officials could not be reached for comment.
