More street violence by Chinese in Sihanoukville; 36 arrested.
Re: More street violence by Chinese in Sihanoukville; 36 arrested.
Wow, Hotdigr, great job! Berate me for being Thai-centric (which I'm not) and then basically call me an ignorant fool for not looking on Facebook for a video that is no longer there. You most be a SJW. I hope you're proud.
Re: More street violence by Chinese in Sihanoukville; 36 arrested.
WillyHilly, don't let Hotdigr bother you too much. He's nothing but a SJW self-hating white dude who thinks whites are the cause of all the world's problems. I've met more than my fair share of these types- especially on American campuses.

Re: More street violence by Chinese in Sihanoukville; 36 arrested.
I would say they are probably Chinese construction workers who live on building sites in pitiful conditions and get pissed up every weekend after payday.
Source: Nothing at all but IMO. There are a lot of Chinese workers in SHV now who have shit work and living conditions.(Live on the building sites like Khmer workers.) They mostly don't speak Khmer or English, don't know the local customs, are separated from their families and culture, are probably treated like scum by their bosses.
This happens everywhere with migrant workers. The problem in SHV is that the influx of Chinese migrant workers has happened too fast to allow for their gradual integration. Suddenly, a large number of unskilled and uneducated workers have been transferred from China to Cambodia. They don't know the local customs, and presumably they are being exploited financially - otherwise Khmer labour would be cheaper than importing Chinese. They all hang out together in a town where drink, drugs and sex are readily available, but they don't have a clue about how to conduct themselves socially with Khmers. What could go wrong ?
I'm not defending anything here, and I think the SHV cops should get this sorted ASAP. No idea what caused the latest street fight though, anyone know ?

Seems half the people I know in Sihanoukville have been turfed out of their accommodation to make way for Chinese at least once in the last couple of years.
Now today it has happened to me.
'Hello Sir, please leave the apartment today as we have rented the whole building.'
I have found a new place (fingers crossed - signing contract tomorrow) and been kindly given 2 days grace to move me and all my stuff (which is a shed load).
If it happens again at the new place then it is fire sale time and goodbye Sihanoukville.
And if anyone is searching for a decent sized SHV apartment with sep. bedroom and balcony PM me as the more barang in my new place the less likely I'll be tossed out onto the streets again with no warning. (Between LV and Don Bosco)

Re: More street violence by Chinese in Sihanoukville; 36 arrested.
Update:
The story goes that a five or six Chinese men were dancing in a bar in a very drunken state, pushing people and treading on the feet of the Cambodian bar girls. The Khmer partners of the women took offense, and then either the men or the women hit one or several Chinese guys. Then the Chinese guys got angry and went to get their mates, and about 40 Chinese men came back to the bar armed with iron bars and wooden stakes.
The exact bar or casino or KTV where the incident began has not been named, but it is confirmed that it is close to Golden Lions Circle. It says here that the Chinese involved were staying at "Jinghong Casino in Quarter 4", but that might also be the bar in question.
The Chinese men were locked up for the night. It hasn't yet been revealed whether they will be charged with criminal offences relating to violence and destruction of property.
