I would say they are probably Chinese construction workers who live on building sites in pitiful conditions and get pissed up every weekend after payday.

They mostly don't speak Khmer or English, don't know the local customs, are separated from their families and culture, are probably treated like scum by their bosses.

This happens everywhere with migrant workers. The problem in SHV is that the influx of Chinese migrant workers has happened too fast to allow for their gradual integration. Suddenly, a large number of unskilled and uneducated workers have been transferred from China to Cambodia. They don't know the local customs, and presumably they are being exploited financially - otherwise Khmer labour would be cheaper than importing Chinese. They all hang out together in a town where drink,drugs and sex are readily available, but they don't have a clue about how to conduct themselves socially with Khmers. What could go wrong ?

I'm not defending anything here, and I think the SHV cops should get this sorted ASAP. No idea what caused the latest street fight though, anyone know ?

The story goes that a five or six Chinese men were dancing in a bar in a very drunken state, pushing people and treading on the feet of the Cambodian bar girls.The Khmer partners of the women took offense, and then either the men or the women hit one or several Chinese guys. Then the Chinese guys got angry and went to get their mates, and about 40 Chinese men came back to the bar armed with iron bars and wooden stakes.


The exact bar or casino or KTV where the incident began has not been named, but it is confirmed that it is close to Golden Lions Circle. It says here that the Chinese involved were staying at "Jinghong Casino in Quarter 4", but that might also be the bar in question.
The Chinese men were locked up for the night. It hasn't yet been revealed whether they will be charged with criminal offences relating to violence and destruction of property.
