Admitting to past failures and turning a blind eye to the ever-growing deforestation issue in the Kingdom, Prime Minister HE yesterday announced the official transfer of the fisheries and forestry department to the control of the Agriculture Ministry.
The premier said combining the two government branches will streamline each department’s functions and boost their effectiveness in preventing the destruction of more of the country’s natural resources.
In addition to the merger, Mr. HE said he wants government officials in the agriculture department to meet with civil society stakeholders every three months, and once a year with the prime minister himself, to discuss forest and environment protection.
His speech yesterday, during a forum on natural resources attended by government officials, NGOs, civil society organizations and many more, covered a variety of topics related to the environment, but focused mostly on how the government can improve its efforts to stop deforestation and protect the natural resources left in Cambodia.
“In the past, it was my fault. But now, all the departments have to merge into one department,” he told the audience...

Cut the music,,, go straight to making a comedy. Mr Tweedly , from Tweedly Dumb Dee, runs out of thing to say, so announces he now gives everything Mr Dumb controls to Mr Dee, and now Mr Dumb has nothing to do because someone is doing his work. This now gives Mr Dumb lots of time to do the corrupt work that he was doing but not supposed to be doing.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Easy one to solve: Lease all the forests to the incorruptibles at Global Witness for 50/99 years and let them sort things out.
With all the big fuss that is made about the theft and export of 'rosewood', it's interesting to note that the RC Church in Siem Reap
is actually PLANTING new rosewood seedlings on the 'Farm of Jesus' (Chomka Preah Yesu) at New Piek Snaing village. The farm
was established "in order to train poor farmers in efficient land use and in order to generate a modest income for the parish."

As the sound of the chainsaws came to an end about 4pm, trucks carrying wood covered in plastic tarps started their journey out of the forest.
The sight of massive logging operations in Prey Lang forest would surprise many who took Prime Minister HE at his word when he signed a sub-decree making Prey Lang a protected conservation area in May...

Re: More on how to save Cambodia's forests.
Asian Correspondent article from March on illegal logging in Cambodia in case you missed it. It was published just after HE threatened to attack loggers with helicopter rocket-launchers, and also made the following promise which should be remembered for posterity as the promise the least likely to be kept on any subject whatsoever :
https://asiancorrespondent.com/2016/03/ ... g-hun-sen/Among the Cambodian PM’s statements against the illegal logging and deforestation problem is a notable one, where he said that allowing expansive tracts of forests to be cut down was “the biggest mistake” of the last decade. He also added, that if the licences of companies found to be logging illegally were not revoked, “I will cut my own head off”.This has obviously never happened and it truly speaks for how seriously HE’s statements on deforestation in Cambodia should be taken.

Paul Theroux was able to look out of the window of a vehicle driven from Poipet to Siem Reap and he could "see blue lights in the jungle."
Few others have noticed much jungle there, so the Blessed Paul is obviously possessed of special powers.

Just another news item ...
http://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/b ... -305012409
Collecting and collating all the news reports on the subject in the Cambodian English-language press over the years would be
quite an undertaking.
How many CAMBODIAN environmental activists have been murdered over the years? Four? Six?
How many?

I doubt that this will stop the Rape-Of-Ream-Park by the Chinese.
