sarcasm is not always understood LOL
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Thought I would add this here instead of creating a new bit.
China shuts down thousands of websites
China keeps the internet under tight control and has been cracking down on a range of illegal activities including pornography and even "spreading rumours".

China has shut down more than 4000 websites and online accounts in a three-month campaign against "harmful" online information, the official Xinhua news agency says.
China keeps the internet under tight control and has been cracking down on a range of illegal online activities including pornography, gambling, religious proselytising and even "spreading rumours".
In a campaign that started in May, the authorities tackled 120 violations and ordered 230 firms to rectify irregularities.
More than 147,000 pieces of harmful information were removed by the end of August, according to China's National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications.
Xinhua said the campaign targeted content in online fiction that spread improper values, vulgarity and obscenity, as well as content that infringed on copyright.
Authorities announced last week that they had busted a live-streaming pornography platform hosted in Cambodia and said to have more than 3.5 million registered users.

iirc, Google graded searches so that some were buried..seriously, both practices are bad, but what is the difference?
The west is less open about censoring/ propaganda
China calls a spade a spade
Both have disadvantages/advantages

It's funny isn't it....they don't want their citizens having access to gambling, pornography, google etc in China....yet, they allow them to travel to Macau, Cambodia et al where they can access all these things.
Talk about a double standards...reminds me of the womanising, heavy drinking arabs in Bangkok.. or, the Malaysians slipping over to Hat Yai for the brothels and boozing.
If they are really serious about it, why don't they just prevent their people from travelling outside their country? When there's prohibition, people will find a way..

Its not so much that they allow travel to participate, they (the bosses) facilitate the construction and use political contacts and money to con the local dickweeds to allow the building and running of these businesses in heir countries.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Sun Sep 23, 2018 8:49 am It's funny isn't it....they don't want their citizens having access to gambling, pornography, google etc in China....yet, they allow them to travel to Macau, Cambodia et al where they can access all these things.

They know full well that the criminal element will swarm around these projects and are happy to allow it to happen OUTSIDE OF CHINA.
Stupid receiving countries hierarchy make money but lose their countries ability to control anything.

That’s like saying there is no difference between the dictator in North Korea and the president of the US and that both leaders has advantages/disadvantages.that genius wrote:iirc, Google graded searches so that some were buried..seriously, both practices are bad, but what is the difference?

Kindly go to North Korea and disagree with Kim and see what happens. The Trump is openly criticized at home and abroad as a matter of political discourse.
One of the reasons the spotlight is on Google is exactly because its rules are not transparent. The fact that a private company is being publicly examined is a triumph of western ideas.
Mainland China has had genocide of the likes of the Khmer Rouge, and recently mass arrests and incarceration of minorities and political dissidents. Where is the open discussion in the country?
Oh, maybe that’s an advantage (to some).
