More Chinese Takeover in Sihanoukville

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

It’s not just the port or the city of Sihanoukville, the entire province is now the special economic zone (of mainland China), like Shenzhen.

Population of Shenzhen is 12 million. Population of Cambodia is 19 million. Expect the entire Kingdom of Wonder to be turned into one big special economic zone of mainland China before long. The population of one tier one mainland Chinese city exceeds that of the entire Cambodian population across the world. Add to that AI and robots will drive the working class out of those cities and into the Kingdom of Wonder where adoption will be slower.

Either lots of money to be made, or lots of dreams to crushed. Khmer culture will slowly die out. Rainsy and the overseas Khmer will be the keepers of Khmer culture in the future.

Not tomorrow, not next month, or even next year.

English teachers will do well just like in mainland China.

Sounds like now is the time to see Cambodia, before it becomes someone else's province. Or am I too late?

Cleaned up several off topic posts about Normans. If anyone wants to continue that discussion, PM me with suggested topic title and I'll set it up.

i think people are wearing dusk masks to protect their lungs from the horrendous amount of dust and sand (its like a fog) than they are concerned about the coronavirus,
the bargirls do start shouting corona at passing chinese though
the place is nowhere near as busy as it was just over a year ago, but the roads are in a terrible condition atm, its like waking around around london after the blitz
