I left Snooky just over a year ago.
I do not recognise the place based on that video.
The pace of construction is phenomenal!

You probably meant destruction.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Re: More Chinese Takeover in Sihanoukville
These are probably not the Chinese from Mainland China. Possible from Taiwan, or Singapore or other regions. Or maybe they are the exceptions.Anchor Moy wrote:As for the Chinese tourists, the Chinese people travelling alone or in couples are often nice folks. I was sitting next to a couple of them in a restaurant a few days ago and they were teaching themselves to speak Khmer. Same thing in a shop a few months back with a Chinese guy trying to ask for things in Khmer. Some of them are making an effort.
Unlike Westerners who want the authentic local experience, Mainland Chinese prefer Cambodia to be experienced on a Chinese platter. The official news agencies don’t encourage citizens to go out and explore the world on their own. They live in a bubble and are quite happy.
Will Mainland Chinese be more adventurous in the future? If citizens go out on their own they may get exposed to ideas that don’t fit the Party orthodoxy. In an increasingly electronic police state, Mainland China might not want this to happen.
Just thoughts from the eternal traveller to the KOW.

Well, I suspect it's not a question of whether they consider Chinese tourists to be 'nice' or not, more likely, they have seen/heard what has happened in Chinaville and some of the undesirable consequences such that they don't want the same thing to happen to their part of the island? We went to Sunset beach for a day and most shop owners refused to serve/ give a room to Chinese tourists.

Native people becoming second fiddle to foreigners is nothing new. Look at the ukArget wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2017 2:04 pm It is not just expats and westerners who are the recipients of shitty rental rises and evictions, it is a lot of the Khmer stall holders and small business owners who rent building space losing livelihoods and "homes " they have had for years. Friends who previously went to Snookyville for holidays to escape PP say it is getting too expensive for them.
Sad when a counties citizens get to take second place to foreigners.

I agree we are a nation of loud mouthed hooligans . We came we saw we conquered, but the people should not have to pay the price. The people only followed orders like any other country.Anthony's Weiner wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 9:15 amI think that can best be described as Karma.Kratom123 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 8:53 amNative people becoming second fiddle to foreigners is nothing new.
