More Chinese Takeover in Sihanoukville

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Can't see the video above ?

I was wondering how the beach area to the left of the pier (looking at the sea) was doing ?

It was a right mess with very few people there in Feb 2018 on my last visit, haven't seen many pictures of it since ?.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

That’s Huy Bunleng the (CPP) journalist and posts the same video every time it rains.

In fact most of his videos are of him driving along a road and equally as dull.

Senior Chinese Official to Study Investment Opportunities in Sihanoukville to Ensure Sustainability

25/05/19 17:43
Phnom Penh (FN), May 24 – Wang Yajun, Assistant Minister of International Department of Communist Party of China, paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister HE on Friday at the Peace Palace Phnom Penh during his visit to Cambodia.

Wang claimed that his visit to Cambodia aims to study investment opportunities to ensure investment sustainability in the coastal province Sihanoukville, according to Premier’s personal secretary Eang Sophalleth.

Wang reiterated the Chinese top leaders’ statement that the deeper alignment of Belt and Road Initiative and the Rectangular Strategy avail opportunities for Cambodia-China, the ironclad friends, to build a community of shared future that is mutually beneficial and interdependent for the benefits of our two peoples.

A mega-resort planned for Victory Beach is underway.

Massive resort breaks ground on coast

The company behind the project, Chinese property conglomerate Prince Real Estate Group, hailed the development as a “new landmark in the property sector in the coast.”

According to a company announcement, works on the project’s foundation began in August last year, with the main construction work starting last week.

“The foundation of the project has been laid, and now work is beginning on the main structure.
“The estimated date for completion is March 2023,” the company said.

“Prince Tian Xi Wan is a masterpiece of international coastal resort of 340,000 square metres in Sihanoukville,” the company said, adding that it is strategically located along Victory Beach adjacent to the provincial town.

The project, which will be developed by China Construction Fourth Engineering Division (Cambodia) Corp., Ltd, will comprise a five-star hotel, five-star standard serviced apartments, the largest duty-free shop in Sihanoukville, a luxury shopping walk, an IMAX cinema, a yacht dock, and beach bathing, Prince Real Estate Group said.

“As a leading enterprise in the Cambodian real estate industry, the Group owns a land reserve of over 12 million square metres, a reserve volume of development of more than 20 million square metres, and an investment capital exceeding $2 billion,” it added.

“The Group has chosen Sihanoukville as a strategic city for its developments, which is a sign of the city’s significance. In addition to Prince Tian Xi Wan, upcoming projects in the province include Prince IT building, Prince Times Hotel, Prince City Center, Prince Splendid New Town, Prince Treasure Island, and Prince Seashore No. 1.

“Soon, a large-scale industrial cluster covering leisure and entertainment, tourism and vacation, high-end hotels, international business, and quality residences will be built, making Sihanoukville into an international tourist attraction,” the company added.

Lao Tipseiha, secretary of state at the Ministry of Land Management, said at the 2019 Real Estate and Construction Forum last week that over the last four months, the government approved 1,420 projects worth a combined $2.7 billion. During the same period last year, just 1,171 projects, worth around $1.6 billion, were approved.
