Ministry claims SEA Radio is jamming air traffic control

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

March 10, 2018
Southeast Asia Radio jams air traffic control
The Information Ministry ordered Southest Asia Radio, FM 106 MHz, to immediately stop all broadcasting. The ministry discovered that FM 106 radio broadcasts were interfering with airport air traffic control frequencies.

According to the letter the ministry sent to the owner of the radio, Cambodia Air Traffic Service and investigations by the ministry found that the radio station was sometimes broadcasting outside of its allocated frequency slot. This “wandering” in the air waves partially jammed tower-to-aircraft communications

This is a very high risk scenario for air traffic, and caused the ministry to order the station owner to immediately get off the air. The ministry also ordered the correction of the problem, and prohibited any resumption of broadcasting until the ministry is satisfied that the issue is resolved.

I was thinking the same thing. Has this station said something to upset the powers that be?

Well 106 MHz is VHF...

Aircraft comms band is around 118 MHz. If the SEA signal is wandering that far from 106, then indeed they have a serious fcuking problem!

More likely to be a shitty output signal on 106 putting out a load of spurious crap signals. A band pass filter will sort that out, (assuming the SEA station engineer knows what a band pass filter is...)

^^ fair enough, but commercial radio station freqs usually top out at, what, 108 Mhz? But even so, it is seriously leaking out of their allotted band by a long shot. Unless, as I say, there is a problem with the station, Cambodia Daily style.

sorry my bad, 106 is low band VHF, i have never flown into phnom penh airport before but according to skyvector phnom penh tower is 118.0 and approach is 123.8,

1 freaking hertz and i cant even get the radio to tune in clearly, 106 to 118 oh come on,

obviously it is an RFA revenge thingy episode again

It ain't bullshit mate. Been happening a while. Even in Siem Reap and they ended up changing the Tower frequency. But what else would you expect over here?
