Minister Suggests Banning Guns and Explosives in Schools

Officials contemplate banning guns in schools
A request made by Interior Minister Sar Kheng to consider the banning of guns and explosives at schools was well received by Prime Minister HE on Friday during a Council of Ministers meeting.

The issue was initially raised by Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron, prompting Mr Kheng to note that drugs and weapons are still a problem in schools in the Kingdom.

“It will hurt the country’s development in the future if youths are using drugs,” Mr Kheng said. “Concerning security in schools, we should be more cautious since we have seen people – mainly in the United States – carry out school shootings.”

Mr Kheng said the gun problem in the US should serve as a warning to the Kingdom, adding that the government should introduce regulations to prevent school shootings.

“In the past, children whose fathers were officials brought guns to schools in Phnom Penh,” he said. “So preventive regulations must be introduced. Safety must be ensured so children can study well.”

Probably not, but this-
In the past, children whose fathers were officials brought guns to schools in Phnom Penh,” he said. “So preventive regulations must be introduced. Safety must be ensured so children can study well.
.. and the many reports of police/military playing with guns in drunken state, and a whole lot of other dumb escapades suggest that common sense, arrogance and lack of basic discipline are an issue. Creating rules for a specific problem, which is actually a symptom of a more fundamental issue, is wasted effort. The rule is mostly going to be irrelevant to the majority, while the idiots will simply disregard it.

This should be a no brainer, though as another poster stated school shootings are really a problem of the "developed " nations of the world.

Really...baby steps guys...lets just try and keep the electricity on in the schools first, shall we?

Some of these ministers probably forget that we're in the middle of an electrical grid fuck up of colossal proportions. You think they lose electricity whilst pushing paper in their plush offices or sipping Cognac and Coke in their palatial homes?

Why can't we just have good guys in school with guns to protect against bad guys with guns?

Sure, like the signs outside nightclubs telling people not to bring grenades and guns inside.
