Re: 55 of mines were found by residents in Lavea Em district, Kandal province.
What kind of mines are these ? They almost look like grenades.
Could they be nasty air cluster bombs ? A quick google search found these:
Awfuly looking death balls I guess.
If so would they be Americans ? Aren't their use sometimes considered as war crimes ? But then I don't think USA ever agreed to any anti cluster bombs convention to begin with.
Also it seems they were gathered, and from the google pictures can also be handled, so not that dangerous ? Are they supposed to explode on impact or to serve as mines ?

Unbelievable, but Cambodia has not yet joined the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) banning cluster bombs...and the Thais used them at Preah Vihear in 2011. https://cambodiaexpatsonline.com/post126585.html#p126585
http://www.khmertimeskh.com/news/24927/ ... ter-bombs/Rockets carrying cluster munitions were deployed by the Thai military during the 2011 Preah Vihear border conflict. Documents filed in a 2013 International Court of Justice case showed that 414 Thai rounds hit the 11th century Hindu temple area during the bombardment that year.
The Thai government was later condemned by the CCM for forcing large numbers of Cambodians out of their homes after many of the munitions remained live but unexploded on Cambodian soil near Preah Vihear.

They are cluster bomblets, most likely dropped in the early 70s. Some could have been from US forces but the republicans used them too. They are often picked up and played with by unwary kids and disaster can ensue.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

The week before 123 US airforce cluster bombers were found in Kandal.John Bingham wrote:They are cluster bomblets, most likely dropped in the early 70s. Here's some American blogger salivating over them https://rogueadventurer.com/2012/02/28/ ... n-vietnam/
And this is what it would have looked like strapped on the side of an American bomber
