Mine gets stuck between truck wheels; Siem Reap

Phnom Penh: A 30 year old Cambodian soil delivery man found a mine bomb stuck between the wheels of his truck when he took his truck for repairs at Sangkat Svay Doung Gom, Siem Reap.

The delivery man didn't know that the mine bomb got stuck in between his truck's wheels, and that day he had already delivered soil from Yeay Gech's pond to sell in Siem Reap City.
It was only after selling the soil that the man noticed a problem when he took his truck to the auto repair shop to get fixed, and the mechanics told him that a mine was stuck on his truck. Alarmed, he reported the information to the competent authorities immediately, who then got in touch with the specialist CMAC team, asking them to remove and destroy the mine under safe conditions.

Soil truck unscathed by bomb

The driver of a heavy truck in Siem Reap province has had a lucky escape after discovering an unexploded bomb stuck between the wheels of his vehicle.

The truck was transporting soil from Kulen Mountain in Banteay Srey district to sell in Siem Reap on Wednesday morning when the bomb was discovered, police said.

Svay Dangkum commune chief Sou Vandeth said the truck driver, Net Kompheak, 30, only found out there was a bomb stuck between the wheels when the truck got a flat tire.
“The truck ran over an unexploded bomb when it was loading up the soil,” he said. “Luckily it slid in between two wheels. It was an 80mm mortar shell. The Russian-made bomb was still in good condition. It must have been fired during the war but fell on a swamp, so never exploded,” he said.
