"Past estimates of suicide rates in Cambodia have varied wildly, from between one and 42 per 100,000 people, or anywhere from 150 suicides per year to 6,300.Beerinthemorning wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 3:44 am"According to a survey conducted by Ms. Sisokhom of 2,600 adults aged 21 and over, there were 42.35 reported suicides per 100,000 of the population in 2011.username wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 2:35 amDid you gather those unofficial numbers yourself? Cambodia has a press with total disregard for ethics and privacy, which is why you hear about a lot of suicides here, compared to other countries.Beerinthemorning wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2017 9:55 pm cambodia has the highest rate of suicide on earth, unofficially but still its the highest on earth.
If accurate, this figure would make Cambodia the country with the highest suicide rate in the world. In 2011, South Korea had the official highest suicide rate among Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development countries, with 31.7 suicides per 100,000 in its populace of about 50 million.
The latest figure from the Interior Ministry puts that number at about 4 suicides per 100,000 of the population.
“We based it on the scientific methodology and interviewed households…. I think it’s representative,” Ms. Sisokhom said, adding that Cambodians between the ages of 20 and 25 are the most likely to commit suicide, largely due to depression caused by joblessness."
However, the researchers from the Royal University of Phnom Penh psychology department who came up with the latter estimate from a survey in 2012 have since admitted their methodology was flawed."

I'm not arguing against the fact that there are huge problems in Cambodia with mental health issues, suicides and no help to get for those affected by mental illness. I'm arguing against your (continuously) unsubstantiated and extreme claims.

one of the largest problem’s the westerner faces is running out of monies, then having to return to a first world country to earn the cash to come back.Beerinthemorning wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 12:47 pmjust watch out for mental illness in cambodia .AndyKK wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 12:42 pmBeerinthemorning I was wondering, what attracts you to Cambodia?Beerinthemorning wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 12:36 pmim not trying to fight with you .username wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 12:28 pmNo.Beerinthemorning wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 12:20 pm name a decent western psychologist or psychiatrist in cambodian from 2018 I will praise you.

yeah well they couldnt come out and say that it was a complete load of bunkum or they would lose face, and lose whatever funds they were hoping to extract from the "donors"

Re: Mekong suicide attempt foiled by passing fishing boat
Its hard to get solid data on the suicide numbers in Cambodia. Facts are rare. At present, there are not enough resources spent on mental health or mental health research, and there is very little donor money for this. The researchers are working with limited statistics and resources.
The PPP article explains the situation quite well.

What’s clear is that these numbers do not reflect the true scale of the problem, as they only signify when police have become involved in violent or suspicious deaths by suicide.
