Many Tourists Leave Koh Rong Island when Extra Police Arrive

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

hi. I'm thinking about visiting koh rong next week with some Cambodian friends, but the situation looks crazy there, and this post makes me wonder if it might be better to wait a few months. can someone on the island post an update about what's happening on koh rong now? aside from this articles about all the police weather sites report the water is hot and not so nice for swimming right now. any advice appreciated! :please: :please:

Its kinda thundery now down here.

Yes the Gulf of Thailand is like tepid bath water.

If you have been to other islands you may be underwhelmed.

But I am not on the island, rather in Sihanoukville.

The presence of more police on the Island is not because of the survivor TV show filming. last month, there were so many crimes like stealing and robbing happened on foreigner tourists visiting there. That's the government deployed the police there to strengthen the security. The majority of Koh Rong visitors are backpackers, they go there to relax and use drug. Koh Rong is a paradise for drug addict. I have been there once and i like it. There are some quite places far from the party area where you can really enjoy the island. It is dam beautiful.

Firebugpenalty: Go to Ko Rong Samloen instead of Ko Rong. Lazy Beach Bungalows is paradise and can be booked across the street from the Utopia bar in Snooky. (look for the sign)

This thread was started over a month ago so things should have quietened down by now. Maybe a few more police are staying on the island. If anything, it should be less crazy than it was before.

But Lazy Beach is also nice.

Come on. I have been there but i didn't do all those drugs. They even were afraid to have drug in front of me, because i am a local visitor. However, there are some quite places on the island that you really can enjoy. i also wanted to go to Koh Ron samloem, but it is really expensive, i dont think i can find $4 per night dorm room like i could on Koh Rong.
