Mandatory showing of vaccination card in Phnom Penh
Re: Mandatory showing of vaccination card in Phnom Penh
I'm just speculating that there may be a small increase in deaths, a "spike" maybe hitting high twenties or low thirties or so a day, so spike may have been too strong a word. Once all the remaining kids go back to school though, that is when I do expect an increase in cases - since people will take their kids along to be tested if they get sick. The youngest kids who get it spreading to their families will be where some more vulnerable people likely get infected and perhaps die. That's my rational for that aspect of the previous comment though.AndyKK wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 2:09 amYou seem very confident about the figure status, but you mention about seeing a spike when the country opens, and afterwards the numbers decreasing. Are you talking about the spike of covid illness or deaths. I would have thought with the governments preparation and it's rules they would be banking of no change. Or would they have a contingency plan, knowing there will be a risk and rise in numbers.AzalKH wrote: ↑Mon Oct 18, 2021 4:54 pmThe government changed the way it's counting positive results. The rapid test kit results are no longer being counted, only PCR results which come back as positive are going into the official count. That's why we had the big drop from 800+ a day to 200ish a day a couple of weeks ago. A lot of businesses now are having on-site employees tested each week and I guess that if someone comes back positive then some places will tell them to quarantine for a couple of weeks and others (possibly such as Yerg's employer) are asking them to go and get a PCR test to confirm the result.Kammekor wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 4:50 pmJoking noted. I have to work on my 'ironic style'.Doc67 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 11:46 am Firstly, I was only joking, I too think the figures have gone from a mild joke to a pathetic farce.
Secondly, I am counting ambulances as well and I saw one yesterday and 2 the day before. Somebody in the bar saw it go past and mentioned that "the ambulances are back", so it's not just us noticing.
Thirdly, if there are now just 250 cases, how come we are still getting 25 deaths a day? What will they do about the thorny issue of the fatality rate? What if it goes UP?
About the deaths, the government can now (still) refer to the number of cases 21 days ago leading to 25 deaths, but soon they can't do that anymore. Then the deaths will drop as well I guess. Or the government will spread the new all deaths were unvaxxed people, putting the blame on that.
Having said that, I don't think many believe the current numbers published. Cambodians have learned from a very young age not to trust their government too much and anyone following the the news about this pandemic from even the largest distance will notice the current numbers are far, far different from what seems to be happening in other places.
I suppose if you wanted to compare current numbers to the old system, you'd multiply by 3.5 or so and have an approximation of what reported cases would be like before it went PCR only.
Given the above, I wouldn't expect deaths to change much, we'll probably see a bit of a spike in a couple of months time once the government officially opens everything up, then return to something like now over a month or two, then slowly decrease over the following months.
I doubt we'll see a spike like those in the UK or other western countries where people see a reopening / laxing of rules as the final opportunity to recover their freedom from The Mask - I fully expect the majority of people here to continue using face masks in public for some time whether the government maintains the mask wearing rule in public places or not.

Yes, I am aware the the government claims to have changed the way they count. Maybe they did for real, maybe not. I think they did not but they want to move on and will accept the price coming with it.AzalKH wrote: ↑Mon Oct 18, 2021 4:54 pm The government changed the way it's counting positive results. I am staying close to Oh Russei market market now, at the 'Olympic' there is a covid treatment center for the symptomatic. Ambulances come and go all the time and from what I see there, at just one treatment center, doesn't fit my perception of 200+ cases per day nationwide unless they bring all the Phnom Penh cases there, which isn't the case for sure.
When you look the number of daily deaths, let's say 20+ per day, there should be an average 2000+ symptomatic cases per day.
I don't have any predictions on how the number of deaths will evolve over time. Maybe a new variant will show up, maybe the efficacy of the vaccines will wear off (maybe does so already?), maybe the vaccines will turn out to work great over a longer period of time, but I know there are still major restrictions. My kid still doesn't go to school and wasn't allowed climbing last weekend. Buses still don't run.
Had a beer in a glass at Harry's though last night. That was was a step forward for sure, and the bars have silently / sneaky opened as well.

I think it's only the riverside that was being targeted. I've been able to get beers in glasses pretty much everywhere throughout this whole affair. I know that it was very difficult near the riverside though. Perhaps the local coppers there were more gungho.Kammekor wrote: Had a beer in a glass at Harry's though last night. Not sure. Quite a few Khmer places around Oh Russei market only recently re-opened after a (2 month) closure.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 9:17 pmI think it's only the riverside that was being targeted. If I recall well BBQ on 108 / Sisowat closed for a long time and 'Corner' on 144 / Sisowat still can't bother to reopen.
Maybe some places have just given up?

Re: Mandatory showing of vaccination card in Phnom Penh
Loads of places have stayed open and kept serving booze in the recent "clampdown". The first ban about 6 months ago was observed by many businesses. The more recent one not so much. I was bringing a black sack to the shop next door first time around, they didn't give a toss in recent months.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Local markets and businesses in Phnom Penh have begun to carry out digital vaccination card scans before allowing customers to enter each location to make sure they do not have COVID-19.

Don't believe everything the KT says. The only place I've ever been asked for a vaxx card was IBC.AndyKK wrote:Local markets and businesses in Phnom Penh have begun to carry out digital vaccination card scans before allowing customers to enter each location to make sure they do not have COVID-19.

Will be interesting to see if it makes things easier or harder for everyone.

At Kandal market there are private security people there to check vaccine cards but last time I was there, they only wanted to see children's cards.
