Man Sets Himself Alight with his Motorbike

Cambodia News, (Preah Vihear Province): On the afternoon of June 23, 2023, a drunk man set fire to his motorbike and himself on the road at the bend of National Road 62, in Dey Krahorm village, Romdos Commune, Rovieng District, Preah Vihear Province.

The victim, An Ponleu, 31, a car mechanic, was first rescued from the motorbike fire; the villagers sat him down in the shade and poured water on him. But shortly afterwards, the man ran back into the fire and rolled around in the flames. This time nobody could save him because the fire was too strong.

The police arrived to find the Honda Dream C125 motorcycle with license plate Siem Reap 1W 3736, almost completely burned with only some metal left, and the fuel tank cap of the motorcycle had been removed, which indicates that the victim really died due to self-inflicted burns, almost certainly because he was drunk.

The body was handed over to the family for a traditional ceremony. RIP
