US Man, MATTHEW DAVID SAMPLE, in Major Meth Bust in Phnom Penh

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I wondered about that too, but then it looks like there are two little legs under that blur, and they are blurring out a child standing there, possibly?

Totally. This morning Matt Sample will wake up in a crowded, sweating hellhole in the certain knowledge that his life as he knew it is pretty much over. Assuming he got to sleep anyway. What a waste. I could almost feel sorry for him if it wasn't for the fact that he had absolutely no consideration for the victims of his crime. Let him rot.
Was he still working as a teacher? This seems like a bold career change.

That's rough. They chain you up with the rest of your team who ratted you out for the next 10 years.

Matthew is somewhat ballsy and defiant too, looking directly at the camera, while the other two, and indeed most people look away. Maybe he'll be an alpha male in prison?

Have you ever watched that simulation where this big monkey tries to get down a hallway. There are 100 slightly smaller monkeys following him (and a few just as big or bigger) and they are just making little scratches and the odd nip or smack in the chops with a bludgeon or stick. It doesn't end up well for the big monkey, I'll see if I can find the vid. 8)

Please do find it. Sounds hilarious and a fit description for Matthew's fate.

It's been well over a year now. Does anyone know of what happened to Matt? Has the case even been heard yet?

The arrest was 12 days before the notorious February 20th Covid outbreak, and most things had ground to a halt by April. These cases often take a long time to get to court and the fact that everyone is found guilty, plus their sentence is going to be for 30+ years, there is no hurry for the authorities to process them.

Unless they had a miraculous escape, they will be sweating it out in Prey Sar.

30 years?! Christ! Pardon my ignorance, but does Cambodia have mandatory sentencing guidelines for drug crimes or is your suggestion speculative?
