A Man Had His Motorbike Robbed and Got Shot In The Head To Death As He Tried To Confront

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I got mine fitted at Khmer GPS on Norodom. It costs 70$, installation included. It's a Chinese GPS tracker, probably worth a few dollars, but it worked surprisingly well.

Two killed in gun battle with police

Military police in Phnom Penh killed two suspected thieves in a shootout yesterday, hours after the pair, and two other suspects, allegedly gunned down a motorist during a heist.

The two men, aged 25 and 26, confronted about 10 armed officers after being surrounded in a treed area in the capital’s Prek Phnov district, where they fled when their two alleged accomplices in the robbery, and two other women linked to the case, were arrested, according to Phuong Sophy, Prek Pnov military police commander.

“When our forces arrived, [the suspects] fired first, [shooting] twice at our force and then three times more,” Pnov said.

“Our force decided to fire back for our safety, killing two.”

According to police, yesterday’s dramatic events began at 5am, when four men tried to steal the motorbike of 21-year-old Den Dararith in the capital’s Tuol Kork district.

But you need to charge it? Sounds counterproductive. How long does the battery last? I would have thought that they would need to be hooked up to the bike's electrical system. Though perhaps a wireless one allows you to hide it more effectively.

Yes. Jamie's method of just gluing it on to the bike wouldn't last long. You have to connect it to the bike's battery, and you also have to make sure you have sufficient credit on the sim card (a few dollars per month will do).

If you know how to do it yourself, you'd save some money, but if you're mechanically retarded like me, it's better to pay someone to do it.

One problem with GPS trackers is that signal blockers / GPS jammers are about just as cheap. I don't think they're used much here yet, but if enough people start using GPS trackers, I'm sure every experienced jao will know where to find one.
