Re: A Man Hacked His Wife, Mother In Law And Two Kids To Death
"Just" alcohol responsible in this case apparently, and seemingly in most of the cases of extreme domestic violence reported in Cambodia. Most of these murder files consist of "family men" who come home mad-drunk and then attack their families, usually with knives or axes. Something very wrong here for sure.Digg3r wrote:I'm wondering if Ice is a contributing factor in any of these extreme murder cases?
On another thread we were talking about how different alcohols cause different effects on drinkers: I'm not sure if its what they put in the rice wine here, but that could be a clue. What is for sure is that a lot of that stuff is mixed with all sorts of things including pesticides, and that there are regular reports of deaths caused by drinking it.
There is a big problem with domestic violence that is linked to alcohol in Cambodia, but this also exists in other cultures. In the Cambodian context however, alcohol seems to release some particularly strong demons. And it happens way too often for it to be explained as a moment individual aberration.
So, once again, is this violence due to the booze itself, or does it come from elsewhere?

@Digg3r, in cases involving teens and offenders in their 20's, I'd expect ice or yama or whatever to be a factor in a lot of these cases.Anchor Moy wrote:So, once again, is this violence due to the booze itself, or does it come from elsewhere?Digg3r wrote:I'm wondering if Ice is a contributing factor in any of these extreme murder cases?
@Anchor Moy, this is something that I've been pondering recently, perhaps due to CEO news bringing it to our attention, and it leads me to wonder about those who grew up in the 80's and 90's when anarchy ruled, and things were dealt with differently. I don't know. It was just a passing thought.
That said, alcohol seems to be involved more often than not. And, if you've ever partaken in a Srah Sor or Lao Kao drinking session you'll know that that stuff kicks like a wounded bull. Very easy to do 'something' and have no recollection of it when you wake up later/tomorrow.

Strong Alcohol is likely to be the culprit, it's linked to 40% violent crimes, just about everywhere in the World; A ruinous enough drug on its own.

Kampong Cham murder suspect dead
The Kampong Cham man suspected of brutally murdering his children, wife and mother-in-law with a scythe in a drunken rage on Monday night has been killed in a hit-and-run incident police believe to have been a suicide attempt.
The suspect, 47-year-old Eng Thy, had a history of domestic abuse and was last seen fleeing into rice fields towards neighbouring Kampong Thom province.
His time on the run appears to have been short-lived, however, as his disfigured corpse was found by a tractor driver in the commune of Koki Thom in Kampong Thom’s Baray district on Tuesday night, just 8 kilometres away from his house in Kampong Cham’s Chamkar Leu district.
“[Thy] knew he could not escape, that’s why he chose to kill himself,” said Heang Meng, the police chief of Speu commune, where Thy lived.
“I think he ran into a truck purposefully, because if the truck had simply run him over, his whole body would have been injured, but in this case only the head was broken, so we concluded that he pushed his head under a truck wheel to die.”

Completely normal and lucid way to commit suicide after hacking your family to death in a frenzy. Wait for a large truck to come along and aim your head precisely under the wheel.CEOCambodiaNews wrote:

Now that's a thought. (You have a suspicious mind LS.)prahkeitouj wrote:Just their thought. No witness.

Just wonder if it is the end of the story? Don't they find witness and the driver to question?

Looks like it was suicide:prahkeitouj wrote:Just wonder if it is the end of the story? Don't they find witness and the driver to question?
And he will be sorely missed.Kampong Cham provincial chief Pen Roth said, “Until now, we cannot make any conclusion of what the reason is behind the death of [Mr. Thy] because it happened on a dirt road in a remote area.
“According to the autopsy, the victim was killed after a car ran over him. However, we cannot say yet if the person committed suicide by running into the car or if it was a traffic accident case,” Kampong Cham deputy police chief Bum Born said
...The body was later handed over to Korki Thom police station, which is trying to find a place for it after all of Mr. Thy’s family and friends refused to take it.

Thanks for detail. It's good that they don't close this case by their assumption.Anchor Moy wrote:Looks like it was suicide:prahkeitouj wrote:Just wonder if it is the end of the story?
