Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Civil servant stabbed then dies in crash
5 June 2017
A civil servant in Stung Treng province was injured after being stabbed in a fight with a friend on Friday, only to be killed in a traffic accident shortly after.
Re Ratha, 28, worked at the provincial department of land management. He was involved in a dispute with a friend at his house on Friday, in which he was attacked with a fruit knife.

The friend drove off on his motorbike with the victim following the altercation, but the pair crashed into another motorbike, leaving Mr Ratha dead and injuring both drivers.
Doung Sivutha, chief of the provincial serious crime office, said police did not know what caused the dispute, but the suspect had been identified.

“We don’t know where the suspect was taking the victim after the stabbing, but they got into an accident with another motorbike, leaving the other driver injured and the suspect seriously injured,” he said...

More questions than answers in the follow-up to this tragic death.
The suspect (below right) appears to be doing fine with his bandaged knee after the motorbike accident (which occurred after he allegedly knifed the victim, and then presumably was driving him to receive medical attention for the knife wound.) The motive for the attack remains unknown, but the two men apparently knew each other.

The victim was not fine at all, but its not clear if all the blood, and the victim's demise, is due to the knife attack or the subsequent motorbike accident. It is also unclear where this photo was taken, but it looks to be in a hospital or or clinic from the surrounding. If that is the case, it is really unclear what he is doing lying on the floor in such a state.
Warning, extremely graphic image, even when pixeled.
