Cambodia News (Pailin): A 33-year-old man, Dong Vichai, from Battambang, set fire to his old motorbike after receiving a fine for 120,000 riels from the traffic police in Pailin.

On May 1, 2020, (the first day of the new traffic laws), at 6:30 am, the man who is a son-in-law of a village chief, burned down his motorbike serial 1998, after being stopped and fined for driving without wing mirrors, no license plates, and no helmet, on national road 59, Sala Krao district, Pailin.

The man said he had bought the motorbike for 260,000 riels, but he has not yet paid up the full amount. When he was stopped by the traffic police, he was taking his injured son to the hospital, and he offered to pay them 20,000 riel, but the police didn't accept the money. The man was in a rush to take his son to the hospital, and he was angry at the police, so he burned his motorbike at the scene as a protest.

yet again, the cops targeting major crime and corruption!

he was taking his sick kid to hospital on a $65 moto?
should have been a police escort, not a fine worth half the bike

the emotional logic is understandable, he should have spat in the governor's face, not apologized

.

monstra mihi bona!

He had three days to pay the ticket. Could just have sold it for $60 and had hospital cash, food cash and tuk tuk home cash to spare!

And you've ably assisted me in proving the point. Thank you.

My Khmer facebook page has a lot of pics the locals are brazen enough to post with police riding without helmets..3 on a moto..no plates..no mirrors..one cop had cases of beer..and some vids of people with shit motos having them loaded on a truck and taken away.
Cries of ..we know who to call when we are being robbed by a thief...who do we call when the police are robbing us?
Hard to enforce this without side roads locals could use.
Oh well...Back where I am from the cops suck the public dry with traffic fines and this is how small towns and suburbs get rich..
Toss in nobody has any money or a job and the shit is going to hit the fan.

I think he did the right thing. That will teach the cops a lesson to not do that again to him or it will happen a second time.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
