Cambodia News (Kampong Cham): On December 26, 2019, at 5 pm, a Lexus RX330, which was driving off a ferry boat, slid backwards and injured five people in Srey Santhor district, Kampong Cham.

Before the incident, the Lexus car was driven off the boat and up on to the riverbank, but then the car slipped back down the bank on to the boat and hit five people, including two small children, injuring 4 of the victims seriously.

I have never seen a Khmer driver use the car handbrake so wondering if that was the case here. Vehicle not in park when the driver got out? Can't see any reason why it would roll back as the dirt is dry and the slope is not very steep.
Bloody lucky for the injured the car didn't keep going off the stern taking them with it.

Yes but surely that's not the only reason Duncan?
Whatever the cause of the accident I only hope that they recover from the incident as it looks like someone was trapped under the car and at least one other pinned against the rail at the rear of the car.

Khmer news showed two toddlers/young children were hurt in the accident.

One dead, two young kids gravely injured, who are now in Kantha Bopha and two more adults seriously injured and in Calmette.

From my information, the driver had recently upgraded to this car and either mistakenly put it in reverse or something broke causing it to go backward with gravity.

Car owner in custody.

Horrible situation.

If it's where I think it is yes very steep when I was there one lady tryinging hard to go up the bank went over the side as the person in front slowed down she needed to pass very dangerous
That was back in August so I avoided that crossing last month it would only have been worse with the river lower
Sad accident indead
I'm standing up, so I must be straight

The kids in Kantha Bopha are both out of critical condition and conscious and it is said they will recover fully.

The two in Calmette getting let out tomorrow. Will recover.

Reparations paid by car owner and accepted by families involved with some contribution from ferry operator also, is the most recent on this.

(my khmer fam are from that specific area)
