Search for Unlicensed Doctor
Police are on the hunt for an unlicensed doctor who killed a woman in Svey Rieng province on Sunday by giving her a lethal injection.
The Romeas Hek district police chief said the unlicensed doctor managed to escape as the victim’s family, who were related to the fake doctor, failed to report the incident to police.
He said the suspect, who has since been identified as Eak Saran, was discreetly operating as a doctor in rural villages without the necessary documentation from the Health Ministry or the provincial health department. Mr. Samol added, however, that the death of Chet Sakhon, 66, was the first of the suspect’s patients to die.
“The victim’s family did not cooperate with us, and they did not file a complaint, they are just asking for compensation to cover the victim’s funeral, but for the police we have to comply with the law which involves searching for the suspect and punishing him,” Mr. Samol said.
Mr. Samol added that the unlicensed doctor also gave the victim’s family 300,000 riel (about $75) in compensation before fleeing.
The unlicensed doctor is now in police custody despite the victim’s family’s insistence that he be released.
