KTV Drug User Gets 13 Years Prison for Selling 200g Meth

KTV worker jailed 13 years over meth
Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday convicted a woman who worked at a KTV club for selling nearly 200 grams of crystal meth for about $3,000 to an undercover police officer in April.

Presiding Judge Leang Samnath sentenced Kheang Sina, 26, to 13 years in jail and also fined her about $3,250 for drug trafficking.

Judge Samnath noted that she was arrested on April 3 by anti-drug trafficking police.

“Although she has denied the allegations, she did not have any sufficient evidence to show the court to prove her innocence and have the charges dropped,” the judge said. “Based on evidence against her, the court has decided to convict her and sentence her to 13 years in jail.”

According to police, at about 8pm on April 2, the undercover officer telephoned an unidentified woman, who was a drug dealer, to buy 200 grams of crystal meth.

The officer agreed to buy the drugs for $3,000, after which police in the Interior Ministry’s anti-drug trafficking department prepared a sting operation.

The undercover officer then telephoned the woman to deliver the drugs at 1.30am on April 3 in a garden in front of Phnom Penh International Airport in Kakab II commune.

When the accused sold the drugs to the undercover officer she was immediately arrested by anti-drug trafficking police from the ministry.

Ms Sina, who was in court yesterday for the verdict, cried when the judge issued his decision.

“This is an injustice,” she said once outside the courtroom “I was only a drug user, but was sentenced to 13 years.”

“I will appeal my case to the Appeal Court,” she added.

During her trial on Monday, Ms Sina had confessed to using drugs, but denied being a drug dealer.

She said that the drugs seized from her belonged to an unidentified woman who hired her to deliver them.

Ms Sina said that the woman, who is at large, offered to give her a small package of crystal meth worth $10 if she delivered the drugs to a client in a garden in front of the airport.
