Korean Man Hits a Tuk Tuk with His Highlander Car
Phnom Penh: On August 1,2018, at 9:40 pm, an unidentified Korean man was driving his Highlander when he hit a tuk-tuk at De Castle Royal in Phnom Penh.
The local people said before the incident, a Korean man drove his highlander at high speed to De Castle Royal apartment. Somehow, he hit the tuk-tuk which was driving in opposite direction. The Tuk Tuk diver was injured and he was sent to the hospital immediately.
The Korean man yelled at the tuk-tuk driver and took his friend's car out of the scene. He called the insurance company to sort out the problem. The Tuk Tuk driver asked for $15,000 for the compensation but the insurance company rejected that figure, so they called the police to check the accident. The police took both vehicles to the police station to sort out the problem by law.

So clearly the Korean driver was in the wrong (based on the article) and there would have been some pain and suffering involved, but $15,000? Allow $2,000 for the tuktuk including moto, at very worst $1,000 for medical - that leaves a LOT of pain and suffering. Must be lost wages in there somewhere.

He deserves every bit of that $15,000 and double that if the driver had been Chinese.StroppyChops wrote: ↑Thu Aug 02, 2018 3:52 pm So clearly the Korean driver was in the wrong (based on the article) and there would have been some pain and suffering involved, but $15,000? Tell me why from this picture should the tuktuk driver be compensated? You can see a big dent on the highlander from the tuktuk driver's face. The motorbike is damaged in the front. The motorbike is behind the highlander. The tuktuk hit the highlander from behind.

Actually can't see any damage to the Highlander, but that doesn't mean much as a car tyre (only) can go up and onto a moto and trash it without damaging the car.
Note in the original that the tuktuk was travelling the wrong way. Surely all bets are off at that point, in a logical worl... never mind.

The big dent leaves a big shadow in the second picture. It's easier to see with a zoom and a crop.
In the other picture I posted you can see a helmet laying behind the driver seat, but if you look closer there's another black helmet hanging on the side of the tuktuk. The black helmet is hard to see partially because it's black but also because it looks like it's half smashed broken or something.
It's probably the helmet the tuktuk driver was wearing when he hit the highlander from behind at high speed to leave such a big dent in the rear right.
I hope the insurance company finds this thread.

It says the tuk tuk was driving in the opposite direction (to the highlander), not on the wrong side of the road, and based on their position in the photos, it was the highlander on the wrong side of the road.StroppyChops wrote:Actually can't see any damage to the Highlander, but that doesn't mean much as a car tyre (only) can go up and onto a moto and trash it without damaging the car.

That helmet's pretty chewed up - I wonder if it helped or hurt in this case.
Edit: or if it was actually worn, although the dent in the car (as others pointed out) suggests it was.

don't think the tuktuk hit it head on.. the aluminum wheel still looks intact. rear wheel looks busted though... must have been at an angle. but how if he was driving in the opposite direction, did the rear of the vehicle get swiped...
