Khmer New year celebration cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic
Khuon Narim
Prime Minister HE said today that he has decided to cancel the Khmer New Year celebrations scheduled for next week in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19 into local communities.
Speaking at a press conference, Mr HE said: “The government decided to cancel the celebrations of the Khmer New Year.”
“The government wants to reduce the travelling of people to prevent the spread of infection from one place to another. This measure is to prevent the people from contracting the virus,” he said.
“The most safe places are at working places,” he said.
He said that the government institutions and private firms, especially garment workers should continue to work as usual, noting that the cancelled three-day holidays will be offset when the COVID-19 is over.
The Khmer New Year celebration starts on Monday and ends on Thursday.

Does this mean no official/public celebration, or public holidays cancelled (or both)?

It looks like they are moving the holiday to a later date. All factories and banks etc expected to stay openBitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 11:26 am Does this mean no official/public celebration, or public holidays cancelled (or both)?

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Khmer New Year postponed

In an effort to halt Covid-19 infections in the Kingdom, Prime Minister HE has postponed the Khmer New Year celebrations – to be held from April 13 to 16.
Instead, he promised to compensate with a five-day holiday at a more suitable time.
He told all government officials, the private sector, and factory workers to continue working as usual.
Speaking in a special press conference at the Peace Palace this morning, HE said the decision was made to contain Covid-19 infections in the Kingdom.
“A holiday for three days ... what do you need it for when people in the countryside are afraid of getting infected by you, and you are also afraid of getting infected by them,” HE said.
HE appealed to the public not to return to their hometowns or visit any resort during this time.
He also told some 150 Cambodian migrant workers from Malaysia, who are scheduled to fly back to the Kingdom today, to delay their return.
As of Tuesday, Cambodia has recorded a total of 115 Covid-19 infections, mostly involving imported cases.
Meantime, five more patients have recovered, bringing the total number discharged from hospitals to 58.

safest for HE's pocket“The most safe places are at working places,” he said.
schools don't bring in the dollar, but the factories must keep going
obviously the safest place is at home with family
i don't get it, if there are so few cases
mostly foreigners who probable won't travel to the boonies anyway
why need to cancel travel?
.
monstra mihi bona!
