Kep Customs Stops Cigarette Contraband with Brand New Japanese Boat

Japan continues to ply Cambodia with gifts, such as these two customs patrol boats, but can not really compete with Cambodia's biggest (and richest) ally.

Kep Province, Cambodia News: On 25 February 2019, between the islands of Pou and Ach Ses off the coast of Kep, the officers of the Customs Commission of Crime Prevention boarded and searched a fishing boat which was found to be carrying 1,129 cartons of contraband cigarettes.

This stunning search and seizure conducted by the eagle-eyed customs officers was made possible thanks to a gift of two magnificent patrol boats, donated by the Japanese government in a ceremony held on 25 January this year. At the presentation, HE Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Aun Porn Moniroth said that the patrol vessels would be a vital tool in the fight against tax evasion by sea, and would contribute to maritime security.
