Kep - accusations of graft ?

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Kep - accusations of graft ?

Post by Anchor Moy »

Not sure what this really means. Always a challenge to decode allegations of corruption.
... The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) is investigating allegations of corruption in the office of Kep deputy provincial governor Prum Chamroeun involving land deals and siphoning off money from tourism operations.

She has been accused of selling a plot of land reserved for a provincial park to her sister, taking a cut from tourist boat revenues and blocking property developments on Rabbit Island...

Wonder if she is having problems because she has not been facilitating big business interests on Koh Tonsay ? The longer it remains unspoiled the better IMO. It seems an obvious target for a big development project.
And she said any delays in property development on rabbit island were due to disputes between companies bidding for contracts, and due to opposition from residents who did not want large resorts built there.

Maybe having to do with chopping down all those mangroves? For the wildlife, that's more devastating than any development project on Rabbit Island.

When I was swimming in Myanmar's Bengali gulf beaches in the 90s, being the only one in the sea with almost no one in sight gave me some irrational (or not?) shark encounter fear...
