Police seize heroin and bhang at JKIA headed for France

Police at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi have seized several kilos of heroin and bhang (cannabis) that was on transit from Juba (South Sudan) and Entebbe (Uganda) to Cambodia and France.

According to detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit, the cargo had been concealed as clothes at an international cargo handling agency when they were discovered on Wednesday.

Police say the cargo from Juba was headed for Cambodia while that from Uganda was headed for France.

When the personnel opened the cargo they said one had three blouses each with eight large buttons and three skirts each with 17 buttons, and on dismantling them they were found with powder substance which was tested and found to be heroin.

The other one was confirmed to be bhang. No arrest has been made so far, said head of ANU Amis Massa. Cases of narcotics trafficking are common through the airport, ports and roads.

That seems totally weird.
Can anyone give me a reason why you would smuggle heroin from South Sudan or Uganda to Kenya to SEA ? SEA is a traditional heroin homeland. Why send coals to Newcastle ? Doesn't make any sense to me.

You are correct, in addition to the fact that SEA is a net exporter not importer of heroin, Africa does not produce Heroin, the heroin in africa would come from Afghanistan/Iran/Pakistan, so going from Afghanistan to Africa and then to cambodia would not be a logical route, you'd be better off going directly from afghan to SEA. But afghan to SEA traffic doesn't happen because afghan heroin is lower quality/grade (#3 heroin) vs the best in the world #4 heroin in SEA. This doesn't make sense for the above reasons. The only explanation I can suggest is that Cambodia was not the final destination, but rather a transit point where the dope would end up in EU or AUS/NZ, but again that would be a very long, suspicious and indirect route
