Kampot tourist boats to move to east side of river

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Kampot tourist boats to move to east side of river

Post by phuketrichard »

this will really hurt their business..
The Kampot provincial authority on Tuesday set a 20-day deadline for the owners of 19 tourist boats to relocate from the east to the west side of the Praek Tuek Chhu river in order to preserve the town’s natural beauty and ensure the safety of visitors to Kampot.

However, the owners have asked it to solve the traffic problems and clean up the new location. They said the road to the new site is narrow and frequently congested.
Love this;
“I would like to say that in terms of safety, the new site is better, but some of them are concerned that their customers will not find them. I explained that they needed to relocate and not to be too concerned about lacking customers,” he said.
Yea, no reason to open a business and be concerned about making money LOL

The new site will become so popular it will be sold to the Chinese and everyone will have to move back to the original site while they develop it.

The traffic on the riverside and dust nowadays are so terrible that these boats are not really major problems. Don't wanna talk about the roads that connect Kampot with those natural delights and the sellout that is going on there.
That place is fuc... which is sad because in contrast to westport it used to be a really nice place.

Just a few weeks ago I was staying in a hotel overlooking the gate in the above photo, yes people working now and again but not much progress if any. But who knows like John says its been going on for five years. Next week it could be floor two.

How will this hurt business? People will have to walk an extra 200m... The first one or two were kind of nice, but as usual, you got another 15 copycats within very little time, and they're definitely an eyesore now as tons of cars and bikes park in front of them, they blast loud obnoxious music and so on.
