Jealous Vender Acid Attacks Lady and Infant Daughter
A cosmetics seller at a market in Takeo province suffered serious burns Wednesday after another vendor doused her with acid, an attack that also left the woman’s 2-year-old daughter with minor injuries, police said.
Muong Sreymom, 31, was feeding her daughter near her stall at the Tonlab market in Kiri Vong district’s Preah Bat Chonchum commune just before 7 a.m. when a rival vendor, Deng Leakhena, 22, poured corrosive acid on her—splashing the toddler in the process—following a dispute over customers, according to district penal police officer Hem Sihakbora.
The acid burned Ms. Sreymom’s face, back, legs and one arm, Mr. Sihakbora said.
The perpetrator’s older brother, Deng Meas, 28, also allegedly attacked Ms. Sreymom’s husband, Luy Sovannaroth, 32, with a stick, but did not land any serious blows, he added.
“They attacked the victims at the same time, so it seems to have been planned in advance,” Mr. Sihakbora said of Wednesday’s attack, adding that the rival vendors also had a physical altercation on Monday after the siblings accused the couple of stealing their customers.
“Witnesses said that everyone was shocked when they saw what happened,” he said. “This was an inhumane act.”
Erin Bourgois, project manager at the Cambodian Acid Survivors Charity (CASC), said Ms. Sreymom was rushed to the Children’s Surgical Center in Phnom Penh’s Chroy Changva district, which is equipped to deal with acid attack cases, with burns to an estimated 44 percent of her body. Ms. Bourgois said the little girl suffered burns to her face.
According to CASC, Wednesday’s acid attack was the third reported this year.
In April, a 41-year-old man in Banteay Meanchey province was left with serious burns on his face after.....

It's been a while since we've had an acid attack report. Too bad someone had to do this. I'm sure her customers will think highly of her after that...

Re: Jealous Vender Acid Attacks Lady and Infant Daughter
We're encouraged to keep moving if we see an accident/attack so we don't attract 'ATM blame' as events unfold. If you witness an acid attack, PLEASE make personally sure the following happens urgently:
1. Make sure you and others are safe (punch the attacker out, run them down, shoot the coward)
2. Flood the burns with as much unchilled water as you can lay your hands on - do NOT use chilled water
3. Being careful to not contaminate yourself, remove any clothing with acid on it EXCEPT clothing that has stuck to skin
4. Make sure a local will keep flooding the burns with fresh unchilled water and organize urgent medical help before you move on
Please.
The more constant the flooding with water, and the faster it's applied, the greater the hope for treatment.
We have a good friend who was acid attacked (she refuses to be a victim) to the same degree as the woman in the spoiler photo. I wish somebody had done this for her.

Sorry, bad wording indeed. What I meant is that it's depressing to hear about an acid attack after the marked decrease in such attacks in the past few years. Seems just recently they were a weekly occurrence in the papers. It's saddening because a lot of progress has been made in reducing the number of such crimes, but then one hears about this attack which sets the "attack free days" clock back to zero.

Why can't you use chilled water?

Re: Jealous Vender Acid Attacks Lady and Infant Daughter
Chilled water on a raw wound such as an acid burn causes a shock response in the body (blood is pulled to the 'core' as a self-defence/survival instinct) which quickly induces hypothermia, and slows blood flow to the affected area. You want the blood flow to continue to dissipate some of the heat (think car radiator).
