interesting! we use such a small number of species as staples compared to the range of known edible species.

so true. REALLY helps to have a fridge for variety. I gotta get me at least a good size icebox. Pretty tired of the buy it and eat it or it'll spoil thang. Jackfruit...first time I had it i said eh, it's ok, but too sweet. Then I found myself looking for it hahaha. Stuff would keep maybe a few days in an icebox. Who knows. maybe longer. I'd eat a much bigger range of things if I had one. Often don't go out for days at a time so I end up eating the same ol slim selection of foods sold by vendors nearby when I really would rather hit the market and stock up on lots of things.
I live on the cheap there so never payin the rates where a fridge would be included.

Jackfruit can last awhile without refrigeration.

with the sugar content I'd be leery of eating it on the third day. Hmmmm, this shit would make a killer cordial I'm thinking. Might ought to draw up plans for making a still there. Now THAT would be something fun to do with all that spare time and a giant array of fruits to pick from TOO!! We should perhaps form a distillery club, meetings would be fun for sure.

I've had similar thoughts. Sugarcane = rum

We have a bag of jackfruit in the freezer, we eat it instead of ice cream and to be honest I prefer it frozen. Give it a try.
It's also really good frozen for when you overheat.
