Intoxicated Man Attacks Monk and Destroys Buddha Statues
Cambodia News (Takeo Province): On October 27, 2021, at 1:40 pm in Champa village/commune, Prey Kabas district, a 27-year-old man, Lay Pheng, went berserk and ransacked the Champa pagoda and attempted to attack a 38-year-old monk, Mon Mat, with a knife.
The monk ran into his room and locked the door in time to escape the attack. However, the suspect still pursued the attack and struck at the door and windows of the monk's room, but failed to get in. So then he ransacked the statues of Buddhas and decorations in the pagoda.
The suspect explained to police that his behaviour was due to intoxication. He was duly arrested and detained for further investigation.
