Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: On February 02, 2019, the department of Anti-Cyber Crime sent seven suspects to Phnom Penh court for online scamming: 3 Nigerian men, 2 Pakistani men, and 2 Cambodian women.

The scam was an old and well-used one, whereby the suspects email a victim saying that they are an old rich sick person with no descendants, who wants to leave all their inheritance to some random person on the internet, and guess what, the victim is the lucky winner ! HOWEVER, there is paperwork involved, or bank transfer fees to be paid, so please send some money because this millionaire who wants to make you rich, doesn't have enough money to pay the fees for some reason.

Not surprisingly, human nature being what it is, this scam is still having some success. In this case, the victim reported the incident to police, and after a search for the suspects, police arrested them on January 30, 2019.

The Anti-Crime Technology Department has warned the Cambodian population to be cautious of different methods of online scamming, such as winning a prize, or a relative in a traffic accident, where the suspect asks people to send money to them.
