AKP Phnom Penh, October 05, 2020 --
Cambodia detected two more cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) – all imported – bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Kingdom to 280.
According to a press release of the Ministry of Health issued this morning, the two new patients are a 27-year-old French national coming from France via Singapore, and a 34-year-old Indian woman coming from India. They both arrived in Cambodia on Sept. 20 and were tested positive for the deadly virus only on their second test. They have been admitted to Siem Reap Provincial Referral Hospital and Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh, respectively.

A statement from the Ministry of Health confirmed that the two new cases are of a French man and an Indian woman.
The 27-year-old French man travelled from France via Singapore on September 20, waited at a hotel in Phnom Penh for two nights until his first test came back negative, then left in a minibus to his home address in Siem Reap province.
Or Vandine, Ministry spokeswoman, said yesterday the minibus only had four occupants and the patient was in the back seat and was wearing a mask.
“When he got home, he continued to quarantine for 14 days at his house, and on the 13th day, October 3, he was tested again which came back positive,” she said.
The patient has been admitted to Siem Reap Provincial Referral Hospital.
A statement said a total of 98 passengers (including the Frenchman) were on board the plane. The Ministry of Health’s emergency response team has searched for and tested about 50 percent of the passengers so far, all of which have come back negative for COVID-19.
The ministry has identified the second case as a 34-year-old Indian woman who flew from India on September 20. After the first test came back negative, she continued to quarantine for 14 days in a hotel in Phnom Penh, while her two children stayed in a separate room. On the 13th day of her quarantine on October 3, she was re-tested which came back positive. She is currently being treated at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital.
Vandine said that her husband left Cambodia for India before she had tested for positive for COVID-19. Her relative and his two children were already taken for quarantine at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital on Sunday.
“There were a total of 84 passengers on board. The Ministry of Health’s emergency response team will continue to search for those infected and the ministry will inform the public of the findings if anyone is found to be positive for COVID-19,” she said.

That wasn't the impression I got (low numbers in Malaysia I mean). Early on, some of the first Cambodian covid cases came from an international religious meet-up in Malaysia. It was a Muslim do, so all the official Cambodian covid cases were Cham people. It was a bit worrying when Khmers were saying (to me) to be careful of Cham because of covid infection. That cooled down, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if there is an increase in covid if the religious restrictions in Malaysia have been relaxed recently. (I don't know.)SternAAlbifrons wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 12:38 am I have not been following closely so not sure why, but Malaysia has had a very low numbers like Cambodia,

As in many other countries the religious get togethers are perfect covid spread events.
As for the Frenchman, what can you say ? He has some sort of sense of entitlement ? He just came from one of the worst hit countries in the world for coronavirus. He lacks a brain cell or ten I reckon.

Remember - there are no indigenous cases of the virus. All cases are imported to the Kingdom of Wonder. Only those from outside spread it to others.
That’s the take home message.

This spike or "second wave" is bigger than the first in Malaysia.
The first was mostly associated with immigration detention centres, since then case numbers have been tiny.
This one has much higher numbers, and is from a wide variety of sources in a number of different places.
The election in Sabar is believed to have been a big hotspot. Many people returning from voting or electioneering have spread that around the country.
(nb; this is all relevant to Cambodia because of the flow of people)

After two recent reports of foreigners who did not self-isolate on arrival in Cambodia when returning to their homes in Siem Reap, the authorities are talking about getting tougher on those who break the rules.
7 Oct 2020
On Wednesday, the ministry issued a statement asking families and relatives to inform authorities if people who recently returned to the country were not self-isolating.
The statement was about “strengthening at-home quarantine” and “preventing the transmission of Covid-19 in the community,” it said.
Those in self-quarantine were asked to “stay in an isolated room with good airflow for 14 days, wear a mask and keep a distance of 1.5 meters from family members and other people,” the statement added.
They should also check their temperature twice a day and look out for symptoms like runny noses, difficulty breathing, headaches and diarrhea.
Spokesperson Or Vandine previously said that those placed in quarantine who violate isolation requirements could be punished under the law, with an on-the-spot fine between 200,000 and 1 million riel ($50 to $250), or criminal charges if the person who escaped had already tested positive for Covid-19.
