Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Visak Bochea Day celebrations on Oudong Mountain cancelled

The National Committee for Organizing National and International Festivals has decided to cancel the Visak Bochea Day celebrations on Oudong Mountain this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Committee secretary general Chhin Ketana said yesterday many monks and Buddhists usually celebrate the public holiday, which falls on May 6, in Kandal province’s Oudong Mountain and at temples throughout the country.

“The pagodas can still decorate and install banners to commemorate the holiday but they have to follow the instructions of the government and the Ministry of Health,” Mr Ketana said.

In March, the government, upon endorsement by the Ministry of Health, enforced a temporary ban on large-scale religious or public gatherings to mitigate risks of COVID-19 transmission.
The temporary ban covers gatherings of Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, and followers of other religions until the COVID-19 threat abates.

Pasteur Institute of Cambodia, Part of WHO COVID-19 Reference Laboratory Network
Phnom Penh, May 02, 2020 --

The Pasteur Institute of Cambodia is one the 26 laboratories classified in the reference laboratory network for COVID-19 of the World Health Organisation (WHO), as of April 29.

According to WHO, those internationally-recognised laboratories are located in 22 countries in all the continents, but most of them are in Asia and Europe.

For the ASEAN region, besides the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia, laboratories in Singapore and Thailand also appear on the list.

Dr. Ly Sovann, Director of the Communicable Disease Control Department (CDC) of the Ministry of Health explained to AKP this morning that the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia has met the technical requirements of WHO in terms of quality and capacity to be included in its network.

The spokesperson took the opportunity to re-warn the citizens of the possible second wave of COVID-19 transmission and to re-appeal to them to keep their vigilance by following the instructions of the Royal Government as well as the Ministry of Health.

As of this morning, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Cambodia remain at 122, of them 120 were successfully cured.

agree; No testing, low cases

some random points.
in the past 4 days 3 older Moslem ladies have died at home herein Phuket and were buried, ( Moslems are buried with 24 hours) they were NOT tested

saw on BBC this morning Kabul carried out random testing over the weekend of 500 people....150 tested positive

Malaysia reports over 6,300 cases.
Indonesia 11,200
Singapore, ( country with probably MOST testing in SE asia ) 15,000
Thailand, nearly 3,000

to go on believing that there are not more cases in Cambodia , Laos and Burma is crazy
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

I think that as soon as more extensive testing is done, and there is already some data on this from the USA on this, we will find a huge number of people have had COVID-19 and were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms with no ill effects.
But then its going to be pretty difficult to get people to live in fear if the data turns out to show a mortality rate far below what we were initially told.
