Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I looked at % of fully vaccinated by country yesterday. Australia at 16%, Cambodia 47% something (Gibraltar 110% wtf?) Taiwan .06%!

Is China withholding vaccine from Taiwan? Do the WHO even recognise Taiwan as a independent country so they can be on the covax scheme? I doubt it, the UN doesn't.

There are very few embassies in Taiwan because nobody want's to upset the Chinese. The Chinese say you can either recognise Chine or Taiwan, not both. Trade missions and office are there, but not embassies of any sizeable country.

Is Taiwan in limbo being refused by China and unrecognised by everyone else?

Yes. Taiwan ordered millions of doses from Germany, which were suddenly cancelled. Pressured from China to cancel the order.

Fortunately the US is sending millions of Moderna doses. Plus others and a locally produced vaccine is helping increase vaccination rates.

Taiwan’s vaccination rate is 36% now.

36% is a lot better than China.

Good for Taiwan and well done the US for giving Beijing a two fingered salute.

As we speak Ban Lung (Ratanakiri) market is raided by the police. All streets leading to the market are closed by the MP. Everyone inside has to be tested, positives will be locked into a 'quarantine center' for fourteen days.

Are you in or out of the twilight zone, or are you still stuck in PP?

I bet those swoops are quick and by the time you realise what's going on, it's too late.

What happens if you happen to be in the area but don't live there. They have to let you leave right?

I know a girl who works at one of the big hotels in PP. When they did the first raid on the market up in Keo Russey on Monday she was told she can't go home. Fortunately the hotel have put her in a room (a very nice one) where she is stuck until August 18th when they will reopen the area.

I don't know what will happen, but I don't have the feeling there are many (Khmer) tourists around. Same with expats. Definitely way less than when it all started.
But, as I experienced myself, these days we all run the risk of being locked in, or locked out, or put in a 'quarantine center' pretty ruthlessly.

I don't think the MP surrounding the market today will give a f#ck about it. They're probably just annoyed another beautiful Saturday is wasted on guarding the roads.

That’s good news. Must have been out of date info.
That’s pretty fast by them.

(I sorted your quotes out. You’re welcome)
