Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

It's the hot humid climate, not a miracle.

I would also suspect that the lack of mass public transit also reduces the transmission rates.

Note from CEO News: Source is the official news agency AKP, taken from a press statement by the Cambodian Ministry of Health - this means that this is official news, it does not mean that it is exact (ie, there may have been cases of the coronavirus in the country that have not been detected.)

Zero New COVID-19 Case for Third Day
AKP Phnom Penh, April 06, 2020 --

No new case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was detected in Cambodia for three days in a row, while three more patients have been cured, according to a press release of the Ministry of Health issued this morning.

The new recovered cases are three Malaysian nationals, aged 39, 26 and 40 years old in Kampong Cham province who came to Cambodia for a religious affair. They have been discharged from Kampong Cham provincial hospital after being tested negative twice.

I really don't understand why this needs to be stressed, as that goes for every country in the world. Every country has undetected ('mild') cases of corona, as it is impossible to test everyone with only mild symptoms.

It's almost like @CEOCambodiaNews says: "Of course you should not believe this official news outlet". However, fact is that - again according to official figures - at the moment there's only 1 case in 'critical condition' in Cambodia and this is not disputed by news, rumours, whatever on social media claiming there are many more cases in hospital.

14 days self quarrantine for all foreigners entering the Kingdom
Foreigners wishing to enter the Kingdom amid the global COVID-19 outbreak are now required to self-quarantine for two weeks after arriving in the country, according to an immigration official.

“Foreigners must be certified they are COVID-19 free,” General Keo Vanthan, spokesman for the General Immigration Department, said today. “They must have $50,000 in a personal bank account [for health insurance]. They must also be quarantined for 14 days [here].”

Gen Vanthan said immigration officials started implementing the requirements on March 31.

“Until now, there has been no [arriving] foreigner placed under quarantine,” he said.
