We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. The raid was lead by Aun Khon, Governor of Kampong Trach District. The Governer’s team had found 4 Kovid-19 positive cases at 8 pm on May 28, 2021.

Show this graph to the average Khmer and it will mean nothing. The daily totals are around 500 and the daily recoveries are similar, plus a few deaths. The panic is over, nobody is talking about how many people got it yesterday anymore. Khmers are just very happy to be back at work. Barangs are happy the bar/restaurants are open again. Nobody wants another lockdown.

Vaccination roll-out continues apace and by the end of June Phnom Penh will be done*, the provinces by the end of the year with 6 million people full vaccinated, or 60%. A further 4.5million doses arrive in June so there is plenty to go around*.

Cambodia is in very good shape compared to any of it's neighbours and on this trajectory will be a beacon of the region. Finally some tangible benefit of being China's slutty little bit on the side.

I think the powers that be have made up their minds - if the general public can get on with their lives with these kind of numbers, so can they. So far, so good.

Anyway, with 28000 cases and 200 deaths, the deadly vicious virus routine is wearing a bit thin. Khmers can do those maths.

The demographic situation here has always been in their favor, so good on them.
The protection an inferior vaccine affords is probably better than nothing.
Long COVID may be a different issue given the quality of medical care here, but time will tell. :hattip:

It appears that the casino will reopen for business in two weeks. It would be interesting to know who frequents these casinos as the borders are officially closed to all tourists at present.
UPDATE
The provincial government of Kampot province advises the governor of Kompong Trach district to close Casino Sok Kim Meng in Kampong Trach, Kampot province, for 14 days from the signature.

There's been a lot to do with favor if you believe in the figures you read, or moreso believe.
Lately handing down responsibility to province governor's and village leaders would probably be normal protocol, hopefully these officials will follow the rules and guidance, but the norm of business creeps in. Corruption and favor will take a long time to be removed, if it is ever to be removed from the culture.
The warning has recently been mentioned to stick to the program of vaccination. I am one of many who read the latest news a week back that residents would receive invitation letters to attend for the vaccine program. It up to now has not happened, but I am hearing vaccines are available now at some cost in the area.
Long covid I think like many illness will be just brushed aside like many illness here, it doesn't exist or our expert medical personal have eradicated the problem.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

This has been said before...

June 1, 2021
Khuong Sreng denies Phnom Penh will be under lockdown

Phnom Penh governor Khuong Sreng has dismissed a claim that authorities will lock down the capital again amid a surge in Covid-19 cases.

Speaking to a local media outlet Monday evening, Sreng said that the authorities have worked hard with the Health Ministry to stem the spread of Covid-19.

“In the past few days, there was news that authorities will lock down Phnom Penh again. I want to inform you all that so far we do not have any plan from the government to impose a lockdown on Phnom Penh,” he said.

Possible future lockdown areas in Phnom Penh would naturally include the districts which are the most affected by the spread of the coronavirus at the present time. This is pure speculation at this stage, of course, but it is always useful to be prepared in case the authorities change their minds, so take note if you live in the following disricts of Phnom Penh.

June 1, 2021
The five districts in Phnom Penh with the highest number of Covid-19 cases:

Khan Por Senchey,
Khan Meanchey,
Khan Sen Sok,
Khan Russey Keo
Khan Kambol.
This information was revealed by the Covid-19 Research Sub-Committee.

By the end of June, or perhaps the latest July, the majority of Phnom Penh will be vaxxed. As long as cases don't go through the roof to 1000-2000+ a day I can't see them having another panic. Limited testing of >7000 a day, will help this a lot.

The time lag of a few weeks between final dose and full protection must be starting to pay dividends by now as many more people in Phnom Penh have had both shots rather than just one, due to the short 2 week gap between them.
