Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

a convention centre in Koh Pich is being converted to another quarantine centre.
It is a field hospital with 5000 beds. Not a quarantine center.
Started provisioning yesterday.
Here it is:

In the UK last April they started converting exhibition centres in London and Manchester etc, boasting about thousands of extra beds in 7 different places. In London they even had 500 intensive care beds, which made it the largest ICU in Europe! Woo, go Brexit!

Most never saw a patient because there were no staff. The NHS had an absentee rate of about 30%, most sick or isolating with Covid-19. There simply were not enough nurses and doctors to staff the 1000's of extra beds, let alone the specialist ICU staff. They just converted every square metre in existing hospitals and used that space.

Where is Cambodia going to find the qualified staff to operate these places? They will just become a living hell, a smelly overheated sauna that will do you far more harm than good. Stay away from them at all costs.

What they look like (for now)

[Government point of view]

But these places will keep infectious sick people out of the community.

[/Government point of view]

And from the point of view of society as a whole that makes sense.

the blame game begins:

One rumour circulating about the source of the virus in Thonglor gentlemen clubs is dozens of coyotes were shipped across the border by their agency to work in Cambodian casinos Jan & Feb when nightlife was closed in Bangkok. Sounds plausible.
BANGKOK (NNT) - The strain of Covid-19 found in Thailand among visitors to entertainment venues in Bangkok has the spike pattern that matches perfectly with the Cambodia strain.

Chulalongkorn University virology specialist Dr Yong Poovorawan said on Saturday that the latest strain does not match 100 per cent with the British or other strains, but displays a 100 per cent match with the Cambodia strain.

The Cambodia strain had been found spreading in Cambodia about six weeks before it was detected in Thailand. From this data, it is conclusive that the latest wave at entertainment venues is related to the Cambodia strain of the virus.

Where are the Chinese prostitutes and their clients that flew them in from Dubai? And the security guard at the Sokha as well.

They must be out of quarantine by now.

you will never know......because were they to be revealed, the next logical question would be.......who facilitated their travel?

And the only people who could do that are the presumably well connected, Khmer elite who make obscene amounts of money by surreptitiously coordinating and arranging all manner of needs and desires for Chinese visitors as well as greasing the wheels of bureaucratic nonsense for such things as visas, business licenses, property purchases, money laundering, high speed internet access for VoIP operations, firearms, police plated vehicles, ad infinitum?

These people will not be named and shamed.........ever........investigative journalists don't survive long nosing into well heeled Khmers rice bowls.

They end up flat on their back gurgling on their own blood if they do that.

The area around Phsar Chas/Old Market is now barricaded. You can go in, but once you're in you have to stay for 14 days. I was going to get coconut waffles but will have to settle for something else now.
